The CLSU Department of Statistics takes part in the Strengthening Dairy Data Management Through Inter-Agency Coordination and Capacity Building, at NIA Pantabangan Lake Resort Hotel, Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija.

Mr. Genesis M. Torres facilitated the session on Basic Statistical Concepts and Descriptive Analysis, followed by a hands-on activity on Data Cleaning, Organizing, and Summarizing, providing participants with practical skills in preparing and understanding dairy-related data.

Ms. Onneth O. Tejada, meanwhile, handled the session on Fundamentals of Inferential Statistics and Selection of Appropriate Statistical Analyses, focusing on strengthening participants’ understanding of statistical methods and their appropriate application in analyzing data.

Their participation reflects the Department of Statistics’ commitment to strengthening statistical skills, promoting data-driven decision-making, and fostering collaboration among partner agencies.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Faculty members of the Department of Statistics, participated in the Biostatistics and Health Data Science Summit (BHDSS) 2026, held on September 14–15, 2026 at the UP School of Statistics, University of the Philippines Diliman. The two-day summit brought together researchers, faculty members, students, and professionals to learn from experts and exchange ideas on current developments in biostatistics and health data science.

DAY 1 | September 14, 2026
The first day featured the World Expert Lecture Series (WELS) with Dr. Thomas Mathew and Dr. Yehenew G. Kifle, both from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Dr. Mathew discussed Equivalence Testing: Bioequivalence and Beyond and Cost-Effectiveness Analysis: A Statistical Overview, highlighting statistical approaches relevant to clinical trials, health interventions, and health-policy decision-making. Dr. Kifle presented Modeling Malaria Risk Near a Hydroelectric Dam: Challenges in Clustered Survival Data and Combining Evidence Across Heterogeneous Studies: Local Power of Exact Tests for a Common Mean, focusing on advanced methods for survival analysis, infectious-disease research, and combining evidence across heterogeneous studies.

DAY 2 | September 15, 2026
The second day featured research presentations from scholars and researchers from Imperial College London, University of the Philippines Diliman, and University of the Philippines Manila. Topics covered advanced spatio-temporal models for disease surveillance, simultaneous prediction intervals for health assessment, methodological lessons from rare disease research, multivariate tolerance regions for clinical laboratory medicine, pharmaceutical market data, Bayesian decision limits, spatio-temporal modeling of adolescent birth records, and causal mediation analysis in longitudinal biostatistical data.

The summit provided a valuable opportunity for the faculty members to expand their knowledge, engage with current developments in biostatistics and health data science, exchange ideas with researchers and professionals, and strengthen academic and research networks. The insights gained from the activity are expected to contribute to the continuing enhancement of instruction, research, and professional practice in the Department of Statistics.

ADVISORY | Shift to Alternative Learning Arrangements

As per Memorandum No 2026-08-25 (25) released by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), alternative learning arrangements shall be in place next week in consideration of the upcoming examinations and the need to provide students sufficient time to review and prepare, as well as the declared holidays (August 31 & September 2), resulting in a compressed class schedule.

As such, please take note of the following dates and arrangements:

August 31, 2026 (Monday) – National Heroes Day | Regular holiday. No classes shall be conducted.

September 1&3, 2026 (Tuesday & Thursday)
Classes shall shift to synchronous online learning using the appropriate online learning platforms.

September 2, 2026 (Wednesday) – Nueva Ecija Day | Local holiday in the Province of Nueva Ecija. No classes shall be conducted.

September 4, 2026 (Friday)
The University’s Work-From-Home (WFH) arrangement shall remain in effect, while classes shall be conducted through the asynchronous mode.

August 29 & September 5, 2026 (Saturday)
All CWTS and ROTC learning activities during shall be conducted through asynchronous mode.

Faculty members are requested to inform their students in advance of the necessary learning activities, requirements, and arrangements to ensure the continuity of instruction. Students are advised to coordinate with their respective faculty members and regularly check their official communication channels for announcements and further instructions.

This initiative is part of the Statistical Consulting course of our graduating BS Statistics 4 students, providing them with valuable hands-on consulting experience under the close guidance and supervision of the faculty members of the Department of Statistics.

ADVISORY | Shift to Alternative Work Arrangements and Learning Modes on August 20, 2026

Pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 131, released by the Office of the Philippine President, appropriate alternative work arrangements shall be implemented in some areas affected by the incoming typhoon, including Nueva Ecija, tomorrow, August 20, 2026.

As such, Central Luzon State University (CLSU) shall implement a work-from-home arrangement while classes shall shift to asynchronous or synchronous.

Meanwhile, offices and units involved in the delivery of essential and vital services, including disaster preparedness and response and other critical operations, shall continue to operate and provide the necessary services.

ADVISORY | Shift to Asynchronous Classes on August 11

As the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continues to affect our students and community, classes remain under an asynchronous setup on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, as per the directive of University President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella.

Meanwhile, offices shall remain open and fully operational to continue serving the community, unless otherwise announced. Any subsequent updates or changes will be communicated through an official advisory from the PLGU/LGU Disaster Risk Reduction Council.

Everyone is expected to remain alert for water accumulation and possible changes in rainfall conditions.
