Welcome to Episode 4: Collecting Data with Accuracy and Integrity.

In research, the strength of every conclusion rests on the integrity of the data behind it. Collecting information is not merely a technical task but a responsibility that demands accuracy, honesty, and respect for ethical boundaries.

In this episode, Dr. Marlyn Lee-Tejada shares practical guidance on how researchers can ensure that their data gathering processes remain credible and responsible. Responding to questions from students, the discussion highlights the ethical considerations that must guide data collection, from respecting participants to safeguarding the authenticity of information.

The conversation also explores how technology can both support and complicate data gathering, how teamwork and coordination influence the accuracy of group research, and the warning signs of potential data manipulation or dishonesty. Dr. Tejada also addresses the common challenge faced by researchers which is handling missing or incomplete data, and how to respond to it responsibly without compromising research integrity.

This episode reminds us that good research is not only about discovering knowledge, but also about upholding the integrity of the research process itself that leads to new knowledge.

Welcome to Episode 3: Designing the Right Research Method.

Good research is a lot like cooking a thoughtful meal. You begin with a clear idea of what you want to prepare, choose the right ingredients, and follow a method that allows the flavors to come together with purpose. Without the right method, even the best ingredients cannot produce the dish you intended.

In this episode, Ms. Frances Nichelle Nubla, specialist in Qualitative Methods, and Ms. Mary Grace A. Besenio, specialist in Quantitative Methods, both from the Ateneo Social Science Research Center, guide students through one of the most crucial stages of research: selecting the methodology that best answers the research question.
Responding to student questions, the conversation explores how researchers determine whether a study calls for qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method approaches, and how a well-chosen design ensures that research questions are addressed effectively.

The speakers also discuss the practical considerations in choosing a methodology, from the nature of the research problem to the kind of data needed, and how conceptual and theoretical frameworks serve as guiding recipes that keep the research process coherent and purposeful.

Welcome to Episode 2: Building a Strong Literature Review.

In this episode, Dr. Anne Marie F. Bagadion, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy at Ateneo de Naga University, guides students through the craft of constructing a literature review that is analytical, organized, and purposeful. Rather than simply summarizing related studies, she explains how a well-written review connects ideas, evaluates scholarship, and clarifies the research gap that a study seeks to address.

Responding to questions from students, the discussion explores practical concerns: how to organize sources effectively, how to identify credible and reliable references, and how a literature review can clearly demonstrate the significance of a research problem. The conversation also reflects on the growing use of AI tools in generating literature summaries—whether they function as a shortcut or as a strategic aid in the research process.

Grounded in the Atenean commitment to thoughtful inquiry and intellectual rigor, this episode reminds us that a literature review is not merely a section of a paper, it is the foundation of scholarly dialogue.

Produced in partnership with the University Research Council, the College of Business and Accountancy, and the Association of Bicol Business Students – AdNU Chapter.

Welcome to the URC Siyasat Vodcast Series. The term "siyasat" signifies the process of deep and careful study, searching, or inquiring into a thing, event, or issue to discover the truth or its details. The series is a space where inquiry meets purpose, and where students, mentors, and institutions walk together in the shared task of knowledge-building for others. This series is rooted in the Atenean tradition of magis: reflective, discerning, and always oriented toward the greater good.

For Episode 1, we begin where every meaningful study must begin: Choosing the Right Research Topic. How do you honor your passion without losing academic rigor? How do you listen to what the literature is saying—and to what it is still silent about? And how do your interests find resonance within your college priorities and the broader university research agenda?

Joining us are two distinguished Atenean scholars and leaders:
Dr. Anne Marie F. Bagadion, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy, and Dr. Maria Nina C. Howard, Chairperson of the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program.

Together, they reflect on the unity of passion, research gaps, and institutional direction, offering grounded wisdom for students navigating the first, and most decisive, step of research.
In this episode, we engage real student questions: from balancing personal interest and academic relevance, to discerning when a topic is right, to the ethical use of AI tools in brainstorming ideas, and the risks of leaning on them too heavily. Most importantly, we speak to those moments of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure, reminding students that discernment is part of the scholarly journey.
