𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰, 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬
As part of the Center’s ongoing and future SAF-focused efforts, a series of technical reviews, consultations, and field visits was conducted under the project “Assessment of Potential Feedstocks for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in the Philippines under the UN-ICAO’s CORSIA Sustainability Criteria,” with the participation of the Department of Energy (DOE), and invited expert collaborators, Dr. Scott Turn and Dr. Elmar Villota. Dr. Turn is a lead researcher in the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute of the University of Hawai’i and a Principal Investigator of the Collaborative Research Network Group for Global SAF Supply Chain Development under the Aviation Sustainability Center (ASCENT) Program supported by the United States Federal Aviation Administration. Dr. Villota, on the other hand, is a current Postdoctoral Fellow on the University of Hawai’i research team.
The 3-day collaborative engagement was opened by a project technical review and consultation meeting held on December 10, 2025, at RET Function Room B, Central Luzon State University. A series of meetings and a field visit from industry and institutional stakeholders follow the project review. A meeting with Island Skies Alliance and JGC Holdings Corporation to discuss potential collaboration was held on December 11, 2025, at JGC PH Office, Madrigal Business Park, Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila. The engagement concluded with a field visit to the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Region IV, where actual tapahan operations were observed, and the current coconut farming and supply chain in the region were discussed. In addition to these key events, Dr. Turn and Dr. Villota visited the Philippine Carabao Center National Headquarters to learn about the potential of the livestock industry for varied applications.
Critical collaborative engagements such as this further strengthen and reaffirm the Center's technical competence, inter-agency coordination, and global relevance.
