A REMINDER TO ALL MARITIME CADETS OF OLT PAGADIAN
MARITIME HIERARCHY: A TRADITION THAT MUST NEVER FADE
To all Maritime Cadets of OLT Pagadian:
Maritime hierarchy is not a temporary rule, nor is it something we practice only when our instructors are watching. It is a lifelong tradition, a professional discipline, and a fundamental principle of the maritime industry that must never fade—until forever.
Onboard a vessel, every person has a rank, a responsibility, and a duty to follow the proper chain of command. A rating must respect the OOW. The OOW must respect the Master. Every order must be properly received, understood, executed, and reported. There is no room for arrogance, disorder, or the attitude that “I know better than everyone else.”
Remember this: You cannot become a good seafarer if you cannot first become a disciplined cadet. Your ability to follow orders today will determine your ability to give responsible orders tomorrow.
Do not mistake discipline for weakness. Respecting your superior does not make you less of a person; it makes you a professional. Accepting correction does not make you inferior; it makes you teachable. Following the chain of command does not destroy your confidence; it builds the character needed to lead.
To those who are already officers: Leadership is not about shouting the loudest or demanding respect. It is about earning respect through example, responsibility, fairness, and consistent discipline. A true officer does not abuse authority. A true officer inspires others to become better.
To all cadets: Never allow pride, personal feelings, friendship, or social media opinions to destroy the hierarchy that keeps a maritime organization strong. There is a proper time to speak, a proper way to raise concerns, and a proper channel to follow. Concerns must be addressed through the chain of command—not through disrespect, public embarrassment, or disobedience.
Today, you are cadets. Tomorrow, you may be responsible for the lives of others. The habits you develop in this institution will follow you onboard. If you practice discipline now, you will carry discipline into your profession. If you practice respect now, you will carry respect into your leadership.
Let this be your permanent mindset:
“I will respect the rank above me, fulfill the duty assigned to me, and lead those below me with fairness and responsibility. I will never allow maritime hierarchy to fade from my character.”
Maritime hierarchy is not only a school policy. It is part of the identity of a professional seafarer.
Stand with discipline.
Serve with humility.
Respect the chain of command.
Lead by example.
And let the tradition of maritime hierarchy remain strong in OLT Pagadian—today, tomorrow, and forever.
