As part of the partnership of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) and the Philippine Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology – Central Luzon Chapter (PSBMB-CL), a session on CELLS (Curated and Empowered Lectures in the Life Sciences) was conducted on April 24, 2026, hosted by the Research and Innovation Hub of PSU – Lingayen Campus via Zoom meeting.

The activity aims to promote our shared responsibility and commitment to quality science learning in the university. Students from the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and the Bachelor of Science in Science Education were among the participants of the CELLS Session 01. Students gained insights into 𝗡𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝗶𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗣𝗖𝗥), 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 during the lecture of 𝐍𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐨, 𝐌𝐒𝐜 (University Research Associate), and valuable knowledge was further gained during the lecture of 𝐃𝐫. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠 (DOST-CIP Fellow for Omics) on 𝗗𝗡𝗔 𝗦𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Our speakers were from the Philippine Genome Center – Visayas and the University of the Philippines – Visayas

The CELLS session flow was structured using an instructional strategy developed by Dr. Jun S. Camara called KAPECIAD. In the KAPECIAD, a speaker is referred to as the presenter, and the presentation is further reinforced by three (3) other discussants, assisted by a moderator and a processor. The session was moderated by Dr. Jun S. Camara (Faculty, PSU-Lingayen). The presentation of the lecture of the speakers was further reinforced by the three (3) discussants, namely John V. Bernardo, MSc (Discussant 1 – Attitude), Melanie P. Melendez, MSc (Discussant 2 – Practicals), Hannah Jean R. Juguilon, MEnv, MSc(ar) (Discussant 3 – Emergissues), and Crislyn C. Villanueva, MASE (Processor).

Students gained insights into 𝗡𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗰𝗶𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗣𝗖𝗥), 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 during the lecture of 𝐍𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐨, 𝐌𝐒𝐜 (University Research Associate), and valuable knowledge was further gained during the lecture of 𝐃𝐫. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠 (DOST-CIP Fellow for Omics) on 𝗗𝗡𝗔 𝗦𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Our speakers were from the Philippine Genome Center – Visayas and the University of the Philippines – Visayas.

The CELLS session flow was structured using an instructional strategy developed by Dr. Jun S. Camara called KAPECIAD. In the KAPECIAD, a speaker is referred to as the presenter, and the presentation is further reinforced by three (3) other discussants, assisted by a moderator and a processor. The session was moderated by Dr. Jun S. Camara (Faculty, PSU-Lingayen). The presentation of the lecture of the speakers was further reinforced by the three (3) discussants, namely John V. Bernardo, MSc (Discussant 1 – Attitude), Melanie P. Melendez, MSc (Discussant 2 – Practicals), Hannah Jean R. Juguilon, MEnv, MSc(ar) (Discussant 3 – Emergissues), and Crislyn C. Villanueva, MASE (Processor).

𝐁𝐅𝐀𝐑 𝐅𝐌𝐀 𝟔 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐒𝐀𝐆 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐏𝐒𝐔 𝐁𝐢𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Fisheries Management Area 6 (FMA 6) has officially elected its new set of officials, including members of the Scientific Advisory Group (SAG), during a convergence meeting and oath-taking ceremony held on April 15, 2026.

Among those recognized are representatives from Pangasinan State University Binmaley Campus: Dr. Lemark M. Bautista, Dean of the College of Fisheries and Environmental Science, who will serve as Primary Representative for the Aquaculture sector, and Dr. Francis Albert T. Argente, who will serve as Primary Representative for the Municipal sector. Both were elected as key members of the SAG, a body tasked with providing science-based guidance for fisheries management and policy development in FMA 6.

Their election marks a significant step in strengthening research-driven and sustainable management efforts across marine and coastal communities within the region.

PSU Binmaley extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Bautista and Dr. Argente for their appointment, recognizing their expertise and commitment to advancing the fisheries sector.

As part of the broader BFAR Fisheries Management Area 6 initiative, the newly elected SAG members are expected to contribute to the development of policies, conservation strategies, and long-term plans that will benefit both the environment and the communities that depend on it.

PSU Binmaley successfully conducted its CHED technical evaluation for the MS Fisheries program on April 13, 2026, as part of its application for the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC). This milestone highlights the university’s commitment to quality fisheries education, with the review covering key areas such as curriculum, faculty qualifications, research, and institutional support.
