The veiled rights
These past few days, I’ve been scanning my Facebook and all I can see in my news feeds is about the current issue of Mr. Vhong Navaro’s mauling case.
All people believed that it was a set up and they give their sympathy to him. The police and media have their eyes on the case; every detail on the situation is being studied. We can see the result and the attentiveness of the police in solving this case. But there is one post that catches my attention; it is the status post of one OFW who is stating his opinion about the case.
At that moment, I realized that he has a point and I, to myself asked that question. How about the other OFW who experienced the same case and others, including r**e victims and maltreated servants? Aren’t they having right to have the same treatment?
Our OFW is considered as the new hero of this country, but then why is it that they are treated like that? The tedious investigation and they are lack of help because they’re not in our country. Their rights are limited and all they can do is to follow every rule that was given to them. We never considered what they feel; it is hard to be separated from their family, they will never see their children growing up because they are sacrificing those years for their loved ones just to have a good future. Why am I saying all of these? Because I can feel the loneliness and lacking of father’s parental and I’m a daughter of an OFW. At first it was hard to be separated but as time goes by I am used to it.
Filipino look for their luck in other countries because here, we are lacking of job opportunities and all the needs are becoming more expensive. Even though it’s against their will, they will take the risk. I’ve read earlier news about the Filipino who hanged himself because of depression. I doubt that it was su***de, why? The reason of going there is his family and for their future or maybe he has a serious problem about his job.
The government should exert more efforts about our fellow countrymen, there is still a lot of abused Filipino but because of the threat they remained silent. Our OFW should be treated right; they are human also and have the same right.
Now there are a lot of OFW’s there who asks help and to have justice. To our government let us help them not only because of duty, but because they are still humans and in the eyes of God we are equal.
