The Office of the Integrated Planning, Quality Assurance, and Internal Audit (IPQAIA) extends its deepest appreciation to Engr. Jerico M. Padrones as he concludes his leadership role over the University's Planning, Development, Quality Assurance, and Internal Audit functions.

Throughout his tenure, Engr. Padrones exemplified visionary leadership, unwavering professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to advancing institutional excellence. His strategic foresight and meticulous approach strengthened the University's systems for planning, quality assurance, and internal audit—leaving the Office more resilient, responsive, and results-driven than ever before.

Among many accomplishments, his tenure was marked by several landmark achievements that elevated the University's standing nationally and globally:

While we will deeply miss his daily presence, steady leadership, and wise counsel, we take comfort in knowing that his journey continues within the University. 𝐏𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐔 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐀𝐓 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐈𝐐𝐀 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐏

Palawan State University (PalawanSU) took a significant step toward strengthening its institutional quality framework by participating in the Luzon Cluster of the 1st Workshop on University's Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Implementation in the Philippines. The three-day event, held from July 14–16, 2026, at Marikina Polytechnic College, utilized the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Version 1.3 as its core resource.

This capacity-building initiative, part of a nationwide series aimed at fortifying IQA systems across Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), was a collaborative effort of key regional and national bodies. The workshop was jointly organized by the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Secretariat, SEAMEO RIHED, the ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN), and the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

Designed to move beyond theory, the workshop focused on the practical application of the AUN-QA IQA Toolkit. Participants delved into actionable strategies to enhance institutional governance, foster evidence-based decision-making, and build robust quality assurance systems capable of adapting to digital transformation, internationalization, and the shifting demands of the modern workforce.

Over the course of the intensive program, PalawanSU’s representative joined fellow HEI participants in examining the Philippine higher education landscape and gaining a comprehensive understanding of the Toolkit’s eight foundational building blocks. The agenda featured dynamic working sessions, peer-to-peer learning, and dedicated action-planning exercises, enabling participants to craft customized IQA plans tailored to their respective institutions. Expert insights were delivered through learning sessions led by quality assurance specialists from the AUN Secretariat, SEAMEO RIHED, the University of Santo Tomas, Mahidol University, and the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City. The workshop was further highlighted by a special address from Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson, Dr. Shirley Castañeda Agrupis.

PalawanSU was officially represented by Dr. MaryAnn A. Artizuela, Deputy Director of the University Quality Assurance Center.

Her active engagement in the workshop underscores PalawanSU’s unwavering commitment to cultivating a pervasive culture of quality. By aligning its academic and administrative practices with ASEAN and international standards, the University continues to champion academic excellence and institutional continuous improvement.

Palawan State University (PalawanSU) recently hosted series of activities from July 28 to 29, 2026, as the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conducted both an onsite evaluation for the issuance of a Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) and a Seed Fund for Medicine Project Consultation and Assessment at its Doctor of Medicine program.

The two-day COPC evaluation was led by the CHED Technical Panel for Medicine, chaired by Dr. Joselito Villaruz, together with Technical Evaluators Dr. Eleanor Almoro, Dr. Christine Tinio, and Dr. Jose Nemesio Granada. They were joined by Ms. Shiela F. Jalbuena, OIC-Supervising Education Program Specialist from CHED-OPSD, and Mr. John Paul Dela Cruz, Education Supervisor II from CHED MIMAROPA.

The evaluation rigorously assessed the university's compliance with the policies, standards, and guidelines stipulated in CHED Memorandum Order No. 18, series of 2016.

Concurrent with the COPC evaluation, a separate team from the CHED Office of Programs and Standards Development - Program Development Division (OPSD-PDD) , the Administrative, Financial and Management Service (AFMS) , the Advisory Panel for the Seed Fund for Medicine Project, and the CHED Regional Office conducted a consultation and assessment of the Seed Fund grant implemented at PalawanSU.

The assessment aimed to determine the project's physical accomplishments, validate the utilization of funds, and document outcomes, good practices, and areas for improvement.

The assessment team conducted a thorough review of financial documents, inspected procured equipment and instructional materials, and engaged in discussions with project implementers to ensure transparency and accountability. The team also provided recommendations to support the continuous enhancement of the Seed Fund for Medicine Program.

The entire PalawanSU community extended their gratitude to the CHED evaluation and assessment teams for their valuable insights and guidance. The university remains dedicated to aligning its medical education programs with national and international quality assurance standards.
