Our guest keynote speakers Dr. Pamela G. Cajilig and Asst. Prof. John Andrew Evangelista delivered presentations on 𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙙𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠. Dr. Cajilig is a professorial lecturer at the UP College of Architecture while Asst. Prof. Evangelista teaches at the UP Department of Sociology.

Parallel panel sessions featuring research by students of the UP Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts followed this afternoon. This annual research forum is a platform to present scholarly and creative work on 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙘𝙝 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙚 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙨, and 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨 accomplished by members of the UP DSCTA community.

Dulaang UP sends our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of Amadis Ma. Guerrero (1941-2026).

An esteemed author and critic, his chronicles had been invaluable and transformative to generations of Filipino artists, cultural workers, and society altogether. His deep-rooted support of Dulaang UP was instrumental to the organization's influence and constancy in the industry.

Sir Amadis' generosity in sharing his insights and attending art and culture engagements are gifts that we will always treasure and remember. Truly, an extraordinary recordkeeper and thinker.

𝗗𝗦𝗖𝗧𝗔 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The Department successfully held the internship orientation for incoming Speech 195 and Theatre 112 students last May 11, 2026.

The orientation served as a space to guide students through the expectations, processes, and opportunities that await them as they begin their internship journey. The event featured talks and discussions from our invited speakers: Mr. Xyle Magdamit from UPD HRDO, Ms. Christen Perez from Sandbox Collective, and Ms. Icee Po from PETA.

The program also included sharing sessions from DSCTA students, Jamill Martine Gaspar, Angelene Sophia Garcia, and Judy Ann dela Cruz, who shared their experiences and insights from their respective internship journeys.

The Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts proudly congratulates Asst. Prof. Marielle Justine C. Sumilong for being awarded 1st Place as Research Paper Presenter at the SCŌP International Convention, Research Congress, and 40th Founding Anniversary.

Her study, “A Content Analysis of Instructional Communication Strategies in Philippine Reading Comprehension Textbooks: Trends and Implications for Instructional Effectiveness,” reflects a strong commitment to advancing research in instructional communication and educational practice.

We celebrate this achievement and her continued contributions to scholarship and the academic community.

𝗗𝗦𝗖𝗧𝗔 𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿

The first installment of the DSCTA Career Talk held last May 4 featured two of our distinguished alumni Prof. Dave Centeno and Ms. Hazel Gutierrez-Marges. Attended by students from both the Speech Communication and Theatre Arts undergraduate programs, the talks offered advice for students preparing to enter the workforce.

Throughout the session, the speakers also shared lessons they gained over the course of their professional journeys. They also shared practical strategies for sustaining fruitful careers in the communication and performance industries.

"Building a Sustainable Career" is part of the 2026 DSCTA Career Talk series. The next session will be a required internship orientation for incoming Speech 195 and Theatre 112 students, and will take place on May 11, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Students may sign up at bit.ly/DSCTAInternship2026.
