20 YEARS AND BEYOND WITH UP ARIRANG โจ
Last July 16, the University of the Philippines Arirang reached a major milestoneโmarking 20 years since it had debuted as the premier Filipino-Korean friendship organization in the State U. Founded at a time where more Koreans were studying in the university and Filipinos had a growing interest in the Korean language and culture, two UP Diliman exchange students alongside their Korean counterparts were bound together by a simple goal: to help fellow Korean exchange students in UPD adjust well to Filipino lifestyle and culture.
As the years went by, that goal became something much bigger, and for 20 years, UP Arirang has continuously commited itself to these causesโfostering friendship and camaraderie among Filipino and Korean communities in the national university as well as in promoting deeper cultural understanding and exchange between the two peoples through initiatives and collaborations with our patrons and partners.
UP Arirang would not have been able to last 20 years and achieve greater heights as it did if not for the members, advisers and alumni, whose burning passion for bridging cultures and communities has shaped the organization into becoming that one home that we all hold so dearly in our collegiate lives.
That being said, we are sincerely and deeply grateful to everyone who has and had continuously supported us over the course of these past two decades! We can only rest assure that we, too, look forward in excitement for what awaits for UP Arirang on its flowery journey towards its sliver jubilee and beyond.
May the following years and jubilees be witness to deeper cultural exchange and stronger and more meaningful relationships within and beyond the organization. May we also become more persistent and transformative in the years to come in order to serve wider communities!
