The forum was organized by PA 106 THU students under the guidance of Sir Lesther Balmatero.
The event was attended primarily by high school students from Krus na Ligas and Rizal High School, along with several college students. The program was hosted by Pauleen Balaga and Mikaela Elize Severo, with Rogz Bautista, Nhorene Hernandez, Johnlee Ligon, Maia S. Obedicen, and Sophia Danielle Dulin serving as facilitators.
In the opening remarks, Iseyaa Patingo reminded participants of the University of the Philippinesโ motto, โUtak at Pusoโ, emphasizing that meaningful activism requires both critical thinking and genuine concern for others.
The first speaker, ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ๐ฒ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐น๐ผ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ผ, ๐ฃ๐ต๐, of the UP College of Media and Communication, discussed the distinction between activism and performative activism. He highlighted how online advocacy can become superficial when visibility and engagement metrics take precedence over accountability and sustained action.
The second speaker, ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฅ๐ผ๐ป๐พ๐๐ถ๐น๐น๐ผ, a BA Journalism graduate and former student leader of UP Diliman, focused on media literacy and responsible online participation. His talk underscored the importance of critically consuming and sharing information to create advocacy content that is credible, ethical, and genuinely impactful.
Following the talks, participants engaged in an interactive activity titled โClaudineโs CO-mment Section.โ Groups were given fictional comment threads containing misinformation, hostility, and performative outrage, which they analyzed and reconstructed into responses that promoted empathy, accountability, and constructive dialogue.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Julia Nicole Cerro, who emphasized the importance of purposeful online activism that extends beyond posting and sharing, and translates into sustained civic engagement.
