SSCF ADVISORY | RESPONDING WITH THE CURRENT GENDER-SENSITIVE APPROACH TOWARDS SLSU STUDENTS ON UNIVERSITY PREMISES
The SLSU Supreme Student Council Federation (SLSU-SSCF) has received recent reports highlighting concerns regarding dress code enforcement, specifically, instances where students, particularly those within the LGBTQIA+ community, have felt discriminated against due to inquiries about their gender preferences.
In light of these concerns, the Federation has taken proactive measures to address the issue by seeking collaboration and support from the Director of the Civil Safety and Security Unit through a letter.
On December 19, 2023, Sir Victor Villon, Director of the Civil Safety and Security Unit, noted our letter. He encourages the students who have experienced discrimination or felt uncomfortable due to dress code enforcement or treatment of the security unit to report their experiences directly to his office.
He assured the student body and expressed his commitment to identifying the specific gates and security personnel associated with instances where students felt discriminated against.
Moreover, Director Villon apologizes on behalf of the personnel. He mentioned that he would address this matter to his personnel to be gender sensitive to their clients (students). Furthermore, they must ensure that they perform their duties and responsibilities as security.
By reporting incidents, we can work towards creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone at Southern Luzon State University.
Always for the students, by the students.
