Capiz State University Explores Tailoring and Dressmaking Production through Benchmarking Initiative at ISAT U

In a strategic move to diversify its income-generating projects (IGPs), the Capiz State University (CAPSU) has set its sights on venturing into tailoring and dressmaking production. This decision aligns with the quadro-dimensional mandates of the university, emphasizing the establishment and operation of production in a business-like manner.

To ensure a seamless implementation of this ambitious initiative, CAPSU conducted a benchmarking activity on January 31, 2024, focusing on Garments Production. The collaboration involved the Fashion and Wellness Department of the College of Industrial Technology at the Iloilo Science and Technology University in La Paz, Iloilo City.

The CAPSU delegation, led by Dr. Cleo Jude Joaquin, Director of the University Business Affairs Office, included Prof. Edgar Tumlos, Campus Business Affairs Officer; Dr. Mary Ann Cervas, COED Faculty; Prof. Eva Cordovero and Ms. Anne Jane Francisco, BIT Faculty; Mr. Raul Francisco, Project-In-Charge of University Printing House (UPH); Mr. Ralph Gerard Cadiz, Information Officer II; and Mr. Reno Ocampo, UBAO Staff.

Recognizing the significance of benchmarking, CAPSU aims to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize profitability in its tailoring and dressmaking production. This benchmarking initiative will provide valuable insights, allowing the university to align its processes with industry standards and best practices.

Expressing gratitude to the key figures who made this benchmarking activity possible, CAPSU extends thanks to University President Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr., for the unwavering support and the opportunity to embark on this venture. Special appreciation goes to Dr. Nemia H. Mabaquiao, Vice President for External Affairs at Iloilo Science and Technology University, for the warm welcome and accommodation during the benchmarking activity.

Dr. Remia L. Doctora, the Director for the Integrated Income and Resource Generation Program, shared invaluable insights and best practices in the business, providing the CAPSU delegation with a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges in tailoring and dressmaking production.

The success of this new venture is dependent on the collaborative efforts of all involved, and CAPSU expresses gratitude to the faculty and staff for their support. With the knowledge gained from benchmarking, the university is poised to make informed decisions, ensuring the success of its tailoring and dressmaking production as a sustainable income-generating project.

During the conduct of IGP and LUDIP First Quarterly Monitoring, Dr. Rodyard Madiclum recognized the ideas of these collaborative monitoring between IGP and Landholdings to have an exchange of ideas among CBAOs of the different campuses to see the strengths and weaknesses of the different campuses in terms of alternative wings to generate high income from production wherein the budget of its campus relies on the number of enrollees yet in the production given that there is more potential to generate income to augment the development specifically in the Burias Campus.

The conduct of monitoring also anchors on the economic development plan, which is one of the requirements of the Land Use Development Infrastructure Plan of the university.
