CSU-SM's RDE office is fully committed to supporting the National Coconut Farmers Industry Development Plan (CFIDP). Recognizing CSU-SM's expertise in coconut technology, the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) Region 2 has tapped the university to provide crucial training and technology demonstration for the development of coconut non-food products and by-products. This initiative aligns perfectly with CSU-SM's mission to promote sustainable development and economic growth through agricultural innovation.

On September 19, 2024, CSU-SM's extension workers, led by Mr. Rogie Gammino, conducted a comprehensive training program at the university's high-impact project production area. The training, attended by various beneficiaries and ATI personnel, focused on practical skills and knowledge related to the processing and production of value-added coconut products. Mr. Gammino, demonstrated various techniques for extracting and utilizing coconut by-products, such as coconut husk fiber, coconut shell charcoal, and other non food products.

This partnership between CSU-SM and ATI-RTC Region 2 underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in fostering sustainable agricultural practices and empowering rural communities. This initiative is a testament to CSU-SM's commitment to the CFIDP program and its dedication to fostering a vibrant and prosperous coconut industry in the Philippines. By providing training and technology support, CSU-SM is playing a pivotal role in transforming coconut farming into a sustainable and profitable venture for Filipino farmers.

Empowering Our Barangay Leaders: A Step Towards Stronger Communities!

On September 21, 2024, Cagayan State University-Sanchez Mira, through its SARANAY program, took another significant step in its mission to uplift and empower local governance by conducting an essential training for barangay officials from Centro 1 and Sitio Carillio. The training focused on “Uplifting the Barangay Workforce Through Capacity Building for Better Delivery of Barangay Services,” equipping our local leaders with the necessary knowledge and skills to serve their communities more effectively.

This comprehensive training tackled several critical aspects of law enforcement and emergency response that every barangay official must understand:

Procedures for Valid Arrests: Ensuring our leaders know the proper legal procedures in handling arrests to protect the rights of every individual while maintaining order in the community.

Warrantless Arrests: Delving into the scenarios when warrantless arrests are lawful and the precautions needed to prevent abuses of authority.

Justifying Circumstances in Relation to Fulfillment of Duty: Exploring legal provisions that protect barangay officials when acting in the rightful fulfillment of their duties.

Use of Reasonable Force in Law Enforcement: Understanding when and how reasonable force should be applied in maintaining peace and order within the barangay.

Emergency Response: Our leaders were also introduced to essential techniques in psychological first aid, an important tool for first responders in managing the emotional and mental toll of emergencies and crises.

We are deeply grateful to the IBP-Cagayan and its esteemed members who served as our resource speakers. Their expertise and dedication were pivotal in the success of this training. Special thanks to Atty. Jale Ann Espanol, Atty. Orlando D. Bueno Jr., Atty. Jan Leandro P. Verson, and Ms. Mins Joyce B. Molina, Rpm, for delivering insightful lectures and empowering our barangay leaders with the legal and practical knowledge they need.

This initiative is just the first phase of our long-term vision to strengthen barangay governance across the region. It is a testament to CSU-Sanchez Mira's unwavering commitment to community development and the enhancement of public service. By equipping our barangay officials with these vital skills, we are investing in the future of our communities and ensuring that every constituent receives the highest level of service and protection.
