The program brings together faculty members and students for multidisciplinary research collaboration, academic networking, cultural exchange, and engagement in initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The SAGUIBO 2026 International Research Webinar Series on Tourism and Hospitality continues to strengthen its international academic network as it features Associate Professor Dr. Kandappan Balasubramanian, Ph.D., Head of the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Events at Taylor’s University, Malaysia.

Featured under the banner “Connecting Universities Across Borders Through MICE, Research, Innovation, and Quality Education,” Dr. Kandappan brings more than two decades of international experience in hospitality education, with academic and professional engagements spanning Malaysia, India, the United States, and East Africa.

His academic profile reflects a strong focus on emerging trends in the tourism and hospitality sector, particularly Hospitality 4.0 and 5.0, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, service innovation, and destination sustainability.

Prior to his current leadership role, Dr. Kandappan directed the Sustainable Tourism Impact Lab (STIL), an initiative that championed purpose-driven education aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

His contributions to educational innovation and digital transformation have also earned him several distinctions, including the Taylor’s Distinguished e-Learning Educator, Apple Distinguished Educator, and Exemplary Meritorious Academic Staff (EMAS) Award.

Beyond the university, Dr. Kandappan has been involved in research projects and international academic collaborations. He has also served as a speaker and panellist in various international engagements and as a visiting professor at institutions across Asia.

His participation in the SAGUIBO 2026 speaker lineup adds another international perspective to the initiative’s growing platform for academic exchange. His expertise in technology, innovation, sustainability, and hospitality education complements SAGUIBO’s pursuit of meaningful conversations on the future of the tourism and hospitality industry.

Bringing pride to the College of Hospitality Management (CHM), three students emerged as champions in the recently conducted campus-wide ASEAN Quiz Bee, showcasing their knowledge, teamwork, and competitive excellence today, August 17, 2026, at the Campus New Gymnasium.

Leading the CHM delegation were Charmien Rose Cruzado, Andrei Mae Agpuldo, and Joshua Raguirag, who secured the championship after successfully navigating the competition’s challenging rounds.

The trio demonstrated impressive mastery of ASEAN-related knowledge, coupled with quick thinking and effective collaboration, to rise above their fellow competitors and claim the top spot.

Meanwhile, Samuel Agcaoili, Sophia Casandra Pacris, and Sheralei Galapia also represented CHM in the competition, advancing to the second level and demonstrating the college’s strong academic preparation and competitive spirit.

The team was coached by Ms. Joan Rachel R. Yamamoto and Mr. Jam Heinz Castillo, whose guidance and preparation helped the students navigate the competition with confidence and composure.

Three delegates from Cagayan State University–Sanchez Mira Campus have arrived in Malaysia to participate in the Exchange Program on Multidisciplinary and SDG-Oriented Research and Development at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on August 16–21, 2026.

Leading the campus delegation are Dr. Verlino D. Baddu, Dean of the College of Teacher Education; JB Prince Sharief B. Panelo of the College of Hospitality Management; and Ryan Jay A. Grande of the College of Criminal Justice Education.

The three are part of the CSU delegation participating in the international mobility program hosted by the Institute of Bioproduct Development of UTM in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The research exchange brings together CSU faculty members and students to strengthen multidisciplinary research collaboration, expand academic networks, and advance initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The international mobility initiative is supported through the efforts of Prof. Dr. Shella B. Cacatian, Internationalization, Partnership and Resource Mobilization Coordinator, and Prof. Dr. Rodel Francisco T. Alegado, Campus Executive Officer, who continue to facilitate faculty and student mobility and international academic engagement.

SANCHEZ MIRA, CAGAYAN — Bringing the College of Hospitality Management (CHM) of Cagayan State University–Sanchez Mira Campus to the international stage, JB Prince Sharief B. Panelo, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management student, joins the University’s 23-member delegation to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for an international exchange on August 16–22, 2026.

Panelo is among the 18 student delegates and five faculty members participating in the Exchange Program on Multidisciplinary and SDG-Oriented Research and Development, which will provide opportunities for international learning, research collaboration, cultural exchange, and academic networking.

Along with the CSU delegation, he underwent a Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar on August 12 at Hermes Hall, CSU Hotel, in preparation for the international exchange.

As Panelo joins fellow CSU delegates in Malaysia, he carries the name of CHM and CSU beyond Philippine shores—turning classroom learning into a passport for global opportunities.

Prof. Bayram brings extensive academic and research expertise in sustainable tourism, tourism entrepreneurship, women’s leadership, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and innovative technologies in tourism. She has authored numerous international publications and contributed to several edited academic books.

Beyond her academic work, Prof. Bayram serves as an associate editor and editorial board member of international journals and actively participates in international research projects, academic networks, and scientific events.
