Tau Gamma Phi during Martial Law
Martial Law was declared on September 21, 1972 by the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Many of the cause-oriented groups critical to the regime, fraternities included, became targets of military harassment. Believing that these groups posed a threat to the order and stability of the Marcos administration.
Ostensibly due to its 'leftist' leanings, the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity's office was raided under an Arrest-Search and Seizure Order signed by then Secretary of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile. Its leaders, including Ted Mogol and Enrico Lacuna, were summoned by then Secretary of Local Governments Jose Rono to a meeting. The Secretary informed them that the government is worried that such a strong organization, like the Tau Gamma Phi, might fall under the influence of the leftist. A thing that the government would not want to happen. Being independent, the Tau Gamma Phi did not heed the call but instead continued, not only to support, but became active participants. They fought, not only for the rights of the studentry, but the rights of the Filipinos for a better future
