Today, I honor the men who carry one of life’s greatest responsibilities—to be a father—and I reflect on how being an Odd Fellow has helped shape the kind of father I strive to be.
In the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, we are taught to live by the values of Friendship, Love, and Truth—but at the very heart of these is one quiet yet powerful virtue: Kindness.
To be a father is not simply to provide—it is to be present.
It is to show kindness in how we speak, how we listen, how we lead, and how we love.
An Odd Fellow who becomes a father does not simply provide—he shows up.
He listens with empathy.
He leads with patience.
He serves with humility.
He teaches through example that integrity matters, that kindness is strength, and that love is a quiet, unwavering presence.
Odd Fellowship teaches us that greatness is not found in recognition or status, but in the quiet commitment to serve others with compassion, honesty, and grace. It reminds us that fatherhood is not about perfection—it’s about consistency, character, and the courage to love, again and again.
To all my fellow fathers—especially my Brothers in the Order—thank you.
Thank you for being the example your children will carry with them into the world.
Thank you for choosing to lead with kindness when the world expects toughness.
Thank you for being the kind of man this world desperately needs.
Happy Father’s Day.
May your light continue to guide your home, and may your legacy be one of love, truth, and enduring kindness.
In FLT,
IAN IRVING BACUNGAN
