In Loving Memory
Teresita Alvarez Jael, RN, MSN
December 29, 1957 – September 18, 2026
Some people leave footprints on the paths they walk. Others leave a little of themselves in the hearts of everyone they meet. Maam Tess was one of those rare people.
For many years, she served not only as a nurse, but as a valued member of the faculty of bringing with her a heart for service, a passion for teaching, and a genuine love for the people entrusted to her care. She was a nurse through and through, and her life reflected what nursing at its best is meant to be: compassionate, purposeful, prayerful, and deeply human.
Those who had the privilege of working with her will remember her motherly presence, the kind that made people feel cared for even without asking. We will remember her bubbly personality, her beautiful smile, and that unmistakable trademark laughter that could brighten even the busiest and most difficult day.
And, of course, who could forget her colorful scarves and punchlines? She had a wonderful way of finding just the right words to lighten a heavy mood. Yet beyond the laughter was a woman of remarkable wisdom. When conversations became difficult, when decisions were needed, or when someone simply needed perspective, she had a way of offering insights that were both practical and profound.
Maam Tess will also be fondly remembered for the way she taught Healthcare Ethics, making lessons come alive through something as simple yet meaningful as the song “Oh Be Careful.” In her hands, healthcare ethics was not merely a subject to be discussed or memorized. It was a reminder to be mindful of our choices, our actions, our words, and most importantly, the people we serve.
Perhaps that is one of the greatest things she leaves behind: the reminder that being a nurse is not simply a profession. It is a calling.
She was a prayerful woman who carried her faith into her work, her teaching, and her relationships. She cared deeply, taught generously, laughed freely, and served faithfully. She always in a sing song voice would say there is always something for which to be thankful.
Her classroom may now be quiet. Her familiar laughter may no longer echo through the halls of CON. We may no longer hear one of her perfectly timed lines nor receive one of her nuggets of wisdom. But the lessons she taught, the lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the love she poured into her profession will remain.
Today, we honor not only the nurse and educator she was, but the woman behind the uniform: a motherly presence, a joyful colleague, a wise teacher, a faithful servant, and a prayerful woman of God.
Thank you for the years of service.
Thank you for the lessons.
Thank you for the laughter.
Thank you for the prayers.
And thank you for reminding us, in your own beautiful way, what it means to be a nurse through and through.
You have cared.
You have taught.
You have served.
You have left your mark.
As you now rest from your earthly work, may you rest in the loving embrace of the One whom you faithfully served.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”Matthew 25:23
You will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever part of the faculty family you helped make better simply by being there.
Goodnight Maam Tess. Until we meet again.
