CSU Carig Psychology Program Posts 95.59% Passing Rate in September 2026 Psychometrician Licensure Exam

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) of Cagayan State University (CSU) Carig Campus celebrates the outstanding performance of its Bachelor of Science in Psychology graduates in the September 2026 Psychometrician Licensure Examination.

A total of 130 out of 136 examinees from the institution passed the licensure examination, posting an impressive 95.59% institutional passing rate, higher than the 91.72% national passing rate.

Adding to the achievement is James Pattugalan, who secured Top 4 in the national rankings.

The strong performance shows the commitment of the CHSS and its BS Psychology program to quality education and professional preparation. This marks another milestone for CSU Carig Campus and its psychology graduates.

CHSS Faculty Lead CSU Participation, Capture Best Cultural Video Award at BIDA Asia 2026

Cagayan State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) strengthened its commitment to cultural exchange, internationalization, and creative communication as its faculty members participated in BIDA Asia 2026, held on August 27–28, 2026, at Kalinga State University (KSU).

Representing CHSS were Dean Dr. Jomel Manuel, Department Chair Dr. Chirbet Ayunon, College Research Coordinator Assist. Prof. Bradley Invierno, College GAD Focal Person Dr. Patrianne Padua, BA Communication Program Coordinator Dr. Yrmeliza Rodriguez, BS Development Communication Program Coordinator Dr. Jan Justin Rodriguez, BS in Development Communication faculty member Ms. Cristine Lopez.

BIDA Asia 2026 served as an international platform for connecting culture, language, tourism, heritage, and creative storytelling, bringing local cultural narratives into broader regional and global conversations. The conference explored how communities can communicate their cultural identities to wider audiences while preserving authenticity, community ownership, and cultural sustainability.

A major highlight of the two-day conference was the Best Cultural Video Competition, which challenged participating institutions to produce short promotional videos showcasing local cultural heritage, traditions, languages, destinations, stories, and community practices.

Rising to the occasion, CHSS emerged as the Champion in the Best Cultural Video Competition, with the winning entry produced by students from the BA Communication and BS Development Communication programs.

The winning cultural video was developed under the supervision of Dr. Yrmeliza Rodriguez and Dr. Jan Justin Rodriguez, whose guidance brought together the students’ skills in communication, development storytelling, and creative media production to present a compelling cultural narrative.

BA Communication Alumni share Television Production Expertise with Communication Students

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Communication) Program welcomed back two of its distinguished alumni for an industry lecture that provided students with firsthand insights into television productions.

Held on June 26, 2026, at the CHSS Conference Hall, the lecture featured Batch 2019 AB Mass Communication alumni Ms. Queenie Cortez and Mr. Julian Jay Narag, segment producers of Wish Ko Lang and Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS), respectively.

The session aimed to expose Communication students to the realities and opportunities of working in mainstream media, particularly within the country's leading television networks.

The initiative stemmed from an earlier conversation between Dr. Patrianne M. Padua. BAComm Faculty member, and the alumni, during which the importance of providing students with greater industry exposure was discussed. Without hesitation, Cortez and Narag accepted the invitation to serve as resource speakers. They also took the initiative to organize the program flow and carefully prepare the topics for the lecture.

Drawing from their professional experiences, the alumni shared practical knowledge on television production, content development, and the challenges of working in the broadcast industry. They also encouraged active student participation through an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students who answered correctly received GMA Network merchandise as prizes.

Despite the demanding nature of their work, Cortez and Narag dedicated part of their rest day to mentor aspiring Communication professionals, reflecting their commitment to giving back to their alma mater.

According to Dr. Yrmeliza V. Rodriguez, BA Communication Program Chair, the program hopes to make the initiative an annual tradition by continuously inviting alumni to return and share their professional experiences with current Communication students.

The lecture also left a positive impression on the participants. Heinz Salvatera, a third-year BA Communication student, shared that the activity deepened his understanding of the television production process.

"Para sa'kin, as someone who has a strong interest in how production really works in the industry, I found this Commversation very interesting. Siyempre, it gave me the chance to satisfy my curiosity about how programs like KMJS and Wish Ko Lang operate behind the scenes before they air. Because of that, I gained a deeper understanding of the entire production process. I believe this experience strengthened my knowledge and gave me a solid foundation that I can apply in my future endeavors and career in the field of communication," Salvatera said.

The industry lecture forms part of the BA Communication Program's continuing efforts to bridge classroom learning with industry practice by connecting students with alumni who have established careers in the media and communication industry.

Through initiatives like this, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) reaffirms its commitment to fostering lasting relationships with its graduates, emphasizing that its doors will always remain open to alumni whose expertise, experiences, and willingness to give back continue to inspire and empower future generations of Communication students.

Two Political Science Students join CSU Delegation to the Asian Undergraduate Symposium 2026

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) marks another milestone in its internationalization efforts as two Bachelor of Arts in Political Science students have been selected to represent the University at the Asian Undergraduate Symposium (AUS) 2026, which will be held at the National University of Singapore (NUS) from July 6 to 18, 2026.

Representing the AB Political Science program are Ms. Ma. Chantilé Iclain C. Mabazza and Mr. Richmond Agustin, who were selected as members of the official CSU delegation to the prestigious two-week international symposium. Their selection reflects their academic excellence, leadership potential, and the University's commitment to developing globally competitive graduates.

The Asian Undergraduate Symposium brings together outstanding undergraduate students from leading universities across Asia for an enriching exchange of ideas, cultures, and academic perspectives. Through lectures, workshops, collaborative discussions, and intercultural activities, participants will engage with pressing regional and global issues while building meaningful networks with fellow student leaders and scholars.

The participation of Ms. Mabazza and Mr. Agustin reinforces the College's commitment to international engagement and supports the University's GLOBAL CSU initiative, which aims to expand opportunities for students to participate in international academic, cultural, and leadership exchanges.

Their participation highlights the growing presence of Cagayan State University in international academic platforms and reflects the University's continuing pursuit of academic excellence, global engagement, and international collaboration. CHaSS leads Day 2 of Faculty Development Seminar-Workshop for Newly Hired and Returning Part-Time Instructors

CICS Conference Room — The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHaSS) successfully spearheaded the second day of the CSU-Carig Faculty Development Seminar-Workshop, engaging newly hired and returning part-time faculty members from various colleges on June 18, 2026.

Committed to fostering both scholarly and interactive discussions, the college invited two expert speakers who shared relevant insights and practical strategies on effective pedagogy in contemporary higher education.

Dr. Bryan M. Nozaleda, faculty member of the College of Human Kinetics (CHK), discussed the do’s and don’ts of crafting assessments, emphasizing the importance of developing valid and reliable measures of student learning. He also addressed the emerging challenges posed by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in education, presenting frameworks and best practices for effectively assessing student outputs in the age of AI-assisted learning.

Meanwhile, CHaSS faculty member Dr. Jan Justin C. Rodriguez delivered a lecture on designing engaging and interactive learning experiences in a blended learning environment—a modality that the campus will continue to implement in the upcoming academic year. In his presentation, Dr. Rodriguez highlighted the distinctions between online and traditional classroom settings, encouraging faculty members to adapt their teaching strategies accordingly. He further underscored the significance of learner-to-learner, learner-to-content, and learner-to-teacher interactions in fostering meaningful and dynamic learning experiences within blended learning environments.

Concluding the activity, CHaSS Dean Dr. Jomel B. Manuel inspired the participants to cultivate a mindset of lifelong learning and professional excellence.

“Faculty development is not a one-time event but an ongoing journey of learning, innovation, and professional growth,” Dr. Manuel emphasized.

The seminar-workshop forms part of CSU-Carig’s continuing efforts to equip its educators with the knowledge, skills, and innovative practices necessary to deliver quality instruction and respond effectively to the evolving demands of higher education.
