Seminar on Earth Day (22-4-2026)
آج شعبہ جغرافیہ، گورنمنٹ ایس ای گریجویٹ کالج، بہاولپور میں زمین کے عالمی دن (ہر سال 22 اپریل) کے حوالے سے ایک سیمینار کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔ جسکی صدارت صدر شعبہ پروفیسر محمد محسن نے کی۔ سیمینار کا آغاز تلاوت کلام پاک سے ہوا جسکی سعادت 7th سمسٹر کی طالبہ رابعہ امیر نے کی۔ اسکے بعد نعت رسول مقبول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی پڑھنے کی سعادت بھی رابعہ امیر کو ملی۔ اس کے بعد شعبہ ہذا کے 7th سمسٹر کے ممتاز طالب علم محمد شہباز نے زمین کے عالمی دن کے حوالے سے زمین کو درپیش مختلف چیلنجز اور ان سے بچاؤ کے حوالے سے مختلف تدابیر پیش کیں۔ اسکے بعد پروفیسر فریال اصغر، اسسٹنٹ پروفیسر، شعبہ ہذا نے بھی سیر حاصل گفتگو کی اور طلبہ پر زور دیا کہ زمین ہمارا گھر ہے جسکی حفاظت ہم سب کی مشترکہ زمہ داری ہے۔ آخر میں صدر شعبہ، پروفیسر محمد محسن نے اپنے اختتامی خطاب میں زمین کے عالمی دن کے منانے کی تاریخ اور ضرورت کو جامع الفاظ میں بیان کیا اور واضح کیا کہ زمین کو اس وقت سب سے زیادہ انسانی کارگزاریوں سے خطرہ ہے جن میں ماحولیاتی تبدیلی، گرین ہاؤس گیسوں کی وجہ سے عالمی تپش میں اضافہ، ماحولیاتی آلودگی میں خطرناک حد تک اضافہ وغیرہ شامل ہیں۔ انہوں نے سال 2026ء کے عالمی دن کے تیھم "Our Power, Our Planet" کو موضوع بحث بناتے ہوئے زور دیا کہ ہمیں اپنے قیمتی قدرتی وسائل جن میں پینے کا صاف پانی، مٹی، جنگلات اور زمین شامل ہے کا کفایتی اور محفوظ استعمال کرنا ہوگا۔ صحت مند ماحول اور معاشرے کی ترویج کے لیے کوڑا کرکٹ، آلودہ پانی، فیکٹریوں کا فضلہ کو محفوظ طریقے سے ٹھکانے لگانا ہوگا۔ اسکے ساتھ توانائی کا کفایتی استعمال اور توانائی کے متبادل ماحول دوست زرائع (سبز توانائی)، شجر کاری وغیرہ کو بھی اپنانے پر زور دیا۔ کیونکہ علم جغرافیہ بطورِ جدید زمینی سائنس کے زمین کو درپیش مختلف چیلنجز کو سمجھنے اورانکا دیرپا حل پیش کرتی ہے- آخر میں تمام طلبہ اور شرکاء نے زمین کو درپیش مختلف چیلنجز سے نبرد آزما ہونے کے لیے مثبت کردار ادا کرنے اور عوامی آگاہی مہم شروع کرنے کا بھی اعادہ کیا۔
Today, a seminar was organized in the Department of Geography at Government S.E. Graduate College, Bahawalpur, in connection with Earth Day (celebrated every year on April 22). The seminar was chaired by the Head of the Department, Professor Muhammad Mohsin.
The seminar began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, which was performed by Rabia Ameer, a student of the 7th semester. She also had the honor of reciting a Naat in praise of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).
After this, Muhammad Shehbaz, a distinguished student of 7th semester, presented on the various challenges faced by the Earth and suggested different measures to address them in light of Earth Day. Following him, Professor Faryal Asghar, Assistant Professor of the department, delivered an insightful talk and emphasized that the Earth is our home, and its protection is a collective responsibility of all of us.
In the end, the Head of the Department, Professor Muhammad Mohsin, in his concluding remarks, explained the history and significance of celebrating Earth Day in a comprehensive manner. He highlighted that the Earth is currently facing serious threats due to human activities, including climate change, global warming caused by greenhouse gases, and the alarming increase in environmental pollution.
Discussing the 2026 theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” he stressed the need for the careful and sustainable use of valuable natural resources such as clean drinking water, soil, forests, and land. He also emphasized promoting a healthy environment and society by ensuring the proper disposal of waste, polluted water, and industrial waste. Additionally, he encouraged energy conservation, the adoption of environmentally friendly alternative energy sources (green energy), and tree plantation.
He further stated that Geography, as a modern Earth science, plays a vital role in understanding the challenges faced by the Earth and in providing sustainable solutions.
At the end, all students and participants reaffirmed their commitment to playing a positive role in addressing environmental challenges and to initiating public awareness campaigns.
