2nd Day Tour,
The 8th semester students of the BS Forestry program embarked on an educational internship tour to the Punjab Forestry Research Institute (PFRI), Gattwala, Faisalabad under the valuable supervision of their esteemed faculty members: Dr. Junaid Naseer, Dr. Muhammad Azeem Sabir, Dr. Muhammad Atif Latif, and Mr. Muhammad Waseem.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to explore the nursery area of the research institute, where they gained hands-on exposure to advanced and modern plantation techniques currently being adopted for sustainable forestry practices. The tour provided an in-depth understanding of the methods used for propagation, nurturing, and transplantation of various species.
One of the major highlights of the visit was the introduction to exotic plant species, where students were introduced to several valuable and rare species including:
• Plunia
• African Black Ebony
• Sagwan (Teak)
• White Chandan (Santalum album)
These species are known for their ecological and economic importance and are being introduced under experimental and adaptive trial phases at the institute.
The tour was an enriching experience that bridged theoretical knowledge with practical exposure, helping students deepen their understanding of forestry research, exotic species management, and innovative nursery practices. The faculty supervisors played a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring students throughout the visit, ensuring a productive and insightful learning experience. |
