🏆 Celebrating Excellence in Materials Research and Electrochemistry! 🧪

We are thrilled to announce that Ms. Azka Shahid Ejaz from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering has been awarded the Best Poster Award consecutively for the 2nd time at the International Symposium on Advanced Materials (ISAM 2025)— a recognition of her outstanding research, creativity, and scientific rigor.

This year, Ms. Azka Shahid Ejaz won Best Poster Award for her research work Titled: “Investigating the Electrochemical Dynamics of Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) for Energy Storage and Photoelectrochemical Energy Conversion” working under the supervision of Dr. Abdul Basit Saim and Dr. Syed Wilayat Hussain.

Her work stood out among numerous high-quality presentations from researchers, showcasing the department’s growing strength in addressing cutting-edge challenges in materials design, energy systems, and nanotechnology.

This achievement not only reflects Ms. Azka’s dedication and innovative spirit but also highlights the department’s commitment to fostering a strong culture of research and discovery.

🎓🌍 Alumni Spotlight – Dr. Faisal Mustafa
We take immense pride in celebrating the accomplishments of our distinguished alumnus, Dr. Faisal Mustafa, who continues to represent the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, IST Islamabad, on international platforms. Currently contributing to academic and research excellence at the American University of Sharjah, Dr. Faisal exemplifies the global potential of IST graduates.

Dr. Faisal Mustafa is widely recognized as a scholar, leader, and advocate for student empowerment, having made a significant and lasting contribution to the American University of Sharjah (AUS) community. He currently serves as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and holds a position on the AUS Alumni Association Council.
He completed his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering with distinction, earning recognition for both his academic excellence and his leadership efforts to enhance the graduate student experience.

Dr. Mustafa’s research delved into the behavior of advanced materials with promising applications in future technologies. His work focused on understanding how certain metals and crystals conduct electricity and respond to magnetic fields, key properties relevant to emerging fields like quantum computing and energy-efficient electronics. His research, which uncovered unusual electrical and magnetic behaviors, has been published in prestigious journals such as Physical Review B, Applied Physics Letters, and ACS Applied Energy Materials.

His journey from IST to AUS showcases the dedication, talent, and drive we strive to instill in all our students. As a passionate advocate for innovation in Materials Science & Engineering, he is an inspiration for the next generation of engineers and researchers.

We are incredibly proud to announce that three outstanding students from our department have been honored with Best Poster Presentation awards at the ASEAN-Pakistan Conference on Materials Science.

Ms. Aqsa Rai won the award for her research work titled “Synthesis and characterization of aloe vera and hyaluronic acid-infused agar/gelatin-based biopolymeric gel for potential skincare applications” in the domain of Bio-Inspired Materials supervised by Dr. Muhammad Atique Ur Rehman.

Ms. Ayesha Latif won the award for her research work titled “Innovative Fabrication And Characterization Of ZnO/Polyaniline Hybrid Nanostructures Through Pseudo-Silica Method For Energy Applications,” in the domain of Materials Chemistry, supervised by Dr. Abdul Basit Saim.

Ms. Azka Shahid Ejaz won the award for her research work titled “A Comparative Functionalization Study of TiO2-coated Laser-Induced Graphene (LIG) for Photoelectrochemical Applications” in the domain of Advanced Materials and Coatings, again supervised by Dr. Muhammad Abdul Basit.
