A meeting was convened at the Principal's office, KMU-IMS Kohat, with the Director UADA KDA and SDO C&W to discuss the allocation of land for installing a tube well to address the institute's water shortage. The Principal KIMS emphasized the urgent need for a permanent water solution, briefing the attendees on the proposed site and the matter's urgency. The Director UADA KDA assured full cooperation, directing the concerned department to expedite land allotment, while the SDO C&W agreed to provide technical support. The attendees (Principal KIMS, KIDS & Vice Principal) mutually agreed to take prompt action to resolve the water issue, prioritizing the interests of students and staff.

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Health Department, has constituted a committee for the formulation of Rules & Regulations under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Healthcare Service Providers and Facilities (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2020.

The committee will deliberate on comprehensive measures to ensure effective implementation of the Act, protection of healthcare service providers and facilities, and prevention of violence and damage to public health property.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding healthcare institutions and promoting a secure working environment for medical professionals across the province.

Your frustration is understandable. Many of us feel shaken and disillusioned after what happened. But if we conclude that society cannot be educated and only force works, then we risk becoming part of the same cycle we are grieving.
Yes, aggression seems loud today — but it is not the majority. Most patients still come with trust, vulnerability, and hope. We cannot surrender the moral ground of our profession. Medicine has always stood for restraint, ethics, and service — even when the environment is difficult.
At the same time, tolerance of violence is not an option. Respect and safety must be ensured through law, policy, and institutional strength — not fear. Our response must be firm, lawful, and united — not emotional or retaliatory.
We do not need swords. We need systems, solidarity, and accountability.

KMU Strongly Condemn the Brutal Killing of Dr. Mehwish and demand Immediate Arrest of Culprits

Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar has expressed profound grief, shock, and outrage over the tragic and brutal killing of Dr. Mehwish Husnain. It is pertinent to mention that Dr. Mehwish was martyred last day when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on her while she was returning home after completing her emergency duty at DHQ Teaching Hospital, KDA Kohat.

Dr. Mehwish was serving as a Casualty Medical Officer and was performing her professional responsibilities with dedication and commitment. She was attacked outside the hospital premises and succumbed to her injuries on the spot. This heartbreaking incident has plunged not only Kohat but the entire medical community of the province into mourning.

In light of this tragic event, a joint condolence meeting was held at KMU under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Zilli Huma, Director Academics & Admissions, and Inam Ullah Wazir, Registrar KMU. Fateha was offered, and special prayers were held for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Addressing the meeting, the speakers stated that the KMU family is deeply shocked and grieved by this horrific incident. Targeting a dedicated doctor who was committed to serving humanity is both deplorable and condemnable. They emphasized that, as the KMU family, they strongly condemn this cowardly and barbaric act. Targeting doctors is, in fact, an attack on the entire healthcare system. Such incidents spread fear and insecurity among medical professionals who are already serving under challenging circumstances.
The meeting called upon the government and law enforcement agencies to immediately arrest those involved in this heinous crime and ensure exemplary punishment so that justice prevails and such tragic incidents are prevented in the future. Serious concern was also expressed over the growing insecurity faced by healthcare professionals, who are increasingly becoming soft targets. The KMU administration urged the provincial government to implement immediate and effective security measures in hospitals and medical institutions to ensure the safety of doctors and other healthcare staff.

KMU also expressed complete solidarity and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Mehwish, assuring them that the university stands with them in this hour of immense grief. #

نہایت دکھ اور گہرے رنج کے ساتھ یہ افسوسناک خبر موصول ہوئی کہ ہماری معزز ساتھی ڈاکٹر صاحبہ کو آج شام تقریباً 8 بجے ڈیوٹی سے گھر واپسی کے دوران فائرنگ کر کے شہید کر دیا گیا۔ یہ سانحہ نہ صرف ان کے اہلِ خانہ بلکہ پوری طبی برادری اور ہمارے ادارے کے لیے ایک ناقابلِ تلافی نقصان ہے۔

بطور پرنسپل و چیف ایگزیکٹو آفیسر، میں اس دلخراش واقعے پر انتہائی صدمے اور افسوس کا اظہار کرتا/کرتی ہوں۔ مرحومہ ایک نہایت محنتی، باکردار اور اپنے پیشے سے مخلص ڈاکٹر تھیں جنہوں نے انسانیت کی خدمت کو ہمیشہ اپنی اولین ترجیح بنایا۔ ان کی ناگہانی اور المناک جدائی ہم سب کے لیے باعثِ صدمہ ہے۔

ہم متعلقہ سیکیورٹی اور قانون نافذ کرنے والے اداروں سے پُرزور مطالبہ کرتے ہیں کہ اس سفاکانہ واقعے میں ملوث عناصر کو فوری طور پر گرفتار کر کے قرار واقعی سزا دی جائے، تاکہ انصاف کی فراہمی یقینی ہو اور طبی برادری کو تحفظ کا احساس مل سکے۔
