Tomorrow, the Zoology Department at the University of Central Punjab will host its much-anticipated annual dinner, a night of celebration and reflection. As we honor the accomplishments of our students, we also bid a fond farewell to our eighth-semester students, who have reached a significant milestone in their academic journey.

🐾 M.Phil Zoology Students Embark on an Enlightening Study Tour 🐝

On July 1st, 2024, the M.Phil Zoology students from the University of Central Punjab embarked on an exciting and educational study tour, exploring various facets of zoological studies and research under supervisor of Dr Muhammad Akhtar (Professor) and Dr. Tanzeela Riaz(HOD Zoology).

🔬 First Stop: Zoological Museum
The journey began at the Zoology Museum, where students delved into the realm of advanced mammalogy. They examined diverse mammalian specimens and gained deep insights into their anatomical structures and evolutionary history.

🐟 Fish Research Centre PU
Next, the students visited the Fish Research Centre at the University of the Punjab. Here, they explored innovative research in ichthyology and had the chance to try some hands-on fishing, enhancing their practical skills in fishery science.

🦖 Dr. AbuBakr Fossil Display Centre
The tour continued to the Dr. AbuBakr Fossil Display Centre, a treasure trove of ancient fossils. Students studied the era of evolution, marveling at the fossilized remains that trace the development of life on Earth.

🍯 Honey Bee Research Centre
The final stop was the Honey Bee Research Centre, where students were introduced to the intricate process of honey formation. They interacted with the dedicated honey bee team, observing the meticulous efforts involved in beekeeping and honey production.

This study tour provided the M.Phil Zoology students with a comprehensive learning experience, blending theoretical knowledge with practical exposure, and fostering a deeper appreciation for the diverse fields within zoological sciences.

The Department of Zoology at UCP convened 8th Board of Studies (BOS) meeting on June 25, 2024, chaired by Dr. Tanzeela Riaz, HOD Zoology Department FOST. External members included Dr. Ali Hussain, Associate Professor from University of the Punjab Lahore and Dr. Afia Akram, Associate Professor from the University of Education, alongside internal members. The meeting focused on discussing and enhancing the BS Zoology curriculum with a specialization in Entrepreneurship. So our students could be equipped with foundation knowledge and entrepreneurial skill. It concluded with consensus on curriculum updates and research approvals, marking significant progress in academic initiatives at UCP's Department of Zoology.

Department of Zoology Symposium Highlights Wildlife Conservation on World Environment Day!

📅 On June 25, 2024, from 10 AM to 1 PM, UCP's Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science and Technology, hosted the impactful symposium "Roaring for Change: Wildlife Conservation." The event, graced by Acting Prorector Dr. Hadia Awan and Dean of FOST Dr. Rizwana, focused on UN Sustainability Goals (SDGs) 13"Climate Action" SDG 14"Life Under Water" and SDG 15 "Life on Land".

🎤 Speakers included Dr. Misbah, Deputy Director of Wildlife Punjab, delivering "Safeguarding Our Future: The Impact of Habitat Depletion and Climate Change on Wildlife Conservation," and Miss Wajiha Iftikhar from Punjab Wildlife Department, sharing insights on "Advances in AI and GIS Technology for Wildlife Monitoring." Dr. Zahra Hussain addressed the challenges of climate change.The symposium sparked discussions on innovative conservation strategies and emphasized collective action for wildlife preservation.
