Dear SLP community, we are pleased to share that our journal "Law and Policy Review" (LPR) has officially been recognized in the Y Category by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) for the year 2026-27. Its a significant milestone for the department as we invite students, scholars, academics, researchers, judges and legal practioners at home and abroad to contribute to this journal through their writings and ideas. There exists a strong need for the legal institutes to foster an environment of research that eventually helps to advance jurisprudence and rule of law in the country. We are particularly grateful to UMT, faculty members and specially the Dean and Editor-in-Chief of LPR, Dr. Shazia N. Qureshi, for her vision and efforts creating platforms for scholarly work.

Earlier from 31 August to 4 September, UMT's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) conducted an annual faculty development program (FDP) training for the teaching staff. A total of 9 modules were offered at the training on a variety of themes including AI, research methodology, wellbeing and leadership and others. From the School of Law and Policy two faculty members, Mr. Fuad Ahmed and Mr. Salman Farrukh, took part in the training that was designed for equipping the faculty with modern and advanced teaching skills. Such trainings are highly valuable as they not only enhance the capacity of teaching staff, but also provide a university-wide networking platform for exchange of knowledge, information and ideas.

Earlier on 5 September, the UMT held an important "National Policy Dialogue" at the Saeed Hakeem Hall organized by the Pakistan Political Science Consortium. The moot brought together senior politicians, journalists and federal ministers to discuss the viability of new administrative units. Various models of good governance were discussed including the empowerment of local governments, creation of new administrative units and formation of new provinces. UMT's President Mr. Ibrahim Murad gave opened the discussion while the guest speaker, Mr. Mohsin Naqvi (Federal Interior Minister) gave his concluding remarks as chief guest. The event was largely covered by media and faculty and administrative staff led by SLP Dean, Dr. Shazia Qureshi, represented the department.

The orientation session for new LLM Commercial Law students was held on 27 February 2026. The session introduced students to the program structure, faculty, academic policies, and research opportunities.
