On September 18, 2026, the Institute of Psychology at BNU welcomed its Fall 2026 cohort with a day designed to help students begin their journey with clarity, connection, and curiosity.

The orientation offered an introduction to the Institute, its history, faculty, programs, and the work that continues to shape its academic community. Students also got a glimpse into the Institute’s activities and initiatives from across the year.

The day then moved into program-specific sessions for BS and MS students, covering course enrolment, academic guidance, and an interactive Q&A. Students also had the opportunity to introduce themselves, share their professional experiences, and talk about the aspirations they hope to pursue — and how their time at BNU could become part of their larger story.

At this year’s BS Research Project Display, students from the Institute of Psychology collaborated with students from School of Media and Mass Communication to work on Social Support, Resilience and Post-Burn Adjustment in Female Burn Survivors—a project made possible through BNUconnect

The project is a glimpse of what becomes possible when disciplines come together, using research, storytelling, and communication to engage with real-world issues and create meaningful social impact.

On September 9, 2026, Dr. Maheen Abid Ali, Assistant Professor, Institute of Psychology, BNU, led an insightful academic workshop, “Rewriting Freud: The Rise of Neo-Freudian Perspectives,” hosted by the Postgraduate Department of Psychology at Kinnaird College for Women. Arranged by Prof. Dr. Masha Asad Khan, Dean of Postgraduate Programs, the session invited students to critically examine Freud’s psychoanalytic framework, its limitations, and the personal and historical contexts that shaped its development.

The workshop traced the evolution of psychoanalytic thought through the contributions of Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, Harry Stack Sullivan, Erich Fromm, and Karen Horney, highlighting how their ideas challenged and expanded classical Freudian theory. From individual psychology and interpersonal relationships to social influence and feminist perspectives, the session offered students a deeper understanding of how Neo-Freudian thinkers reshaped psychological theory.

Institute of Psychology Alumna, Dr. Anita Azeem (Assistant Professor of Psychology at Carson-Newman University) was awarded the Teaching Excellence and Leadership Award 2026 on September 1, 2026, at the university’s 175th Convocation.

‎BNU is proud to share its alumna, Shanzae Malik, who is making meaningful contributions to mental healthcare through her dual role as a Clinical Psychologist in both the Psychiatry Department and Human Resources at the Indus Hospital.

‎ A graduate of the BS (Hons) in Applied Psychology (2021) and MS Clinical & Counselling Psychology (2023) programmes at BNU, and a student on Dean's Honour List, Shanzae previously served at Willing Ways Rehabilitation Clinic and as an Inclusive Counsellor.
‎
‎Today, she provides psychological support to patients and leads employee wellbeing initiatives for healthcare professionals in a high-demand hospital environment that serves nearly 700 patients every day free of cost. Her work focuses on psychological assessment, burnout prevention, resilience building, and fostering healthier workplaces for nurses, doctors, and allied healthcare staff.

‎Shanzae extends her heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers who guided and supported her throughout her academic journey at BNU, especially Dr. Farhat, Amna Butt, Dr. Ruhi Khalid, Fatima Nadeem, Aman Kareem, Rawa Haider, and Rabia Khan, whose mentorship played an important role in shaping her professional journey and commitment to mental healthcare.
