The University of Lahore commemorated World Environment Day 2026 on 5th June 2026 through a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness, sustainability, and community engagement. Prof. Dr. M. Kauser Abdullah Malik (President, Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Rector, UOL), who emphasized the collective responsibility of protecting natural resources and fostering sustainable practices. The ceremony was further enriched by inspiring messages from distinguished international and national guests, including Prof. You-Cai Xiong (Lanzhou University, China), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akmal (Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and Prof. Dr. M. Aslam Baig (Secretary General, Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS), while Prof. Dr. M. Kauser Abdullah Malik (President, Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS), as the Chief Guest, in his message emphasize the importance of UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) and their importance in daily life. He further remarked about the importance of ‘one health’, an integrated, collaborative approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, plant, and health ecosystem. The event concluded with closing remarks by Madam Ammara Awais (Director, Office of Sustainability) followed by presentation of the souvenir to the chief guest and a group photograph.
As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, the Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with S.A.F.E Society organized a Photography Competition under the theme “Nature and Environmental Awareness.” The competition provided a platform for participants to creatively highlight environmental issues and the beauty of nature through photography.
The competition was graced by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Bilal Waqar (Dean, Faculty of Sciences (FoS), as the Chief Guest. The event was also honored by the presence of Head, Department of Chemistry and Director, IMMB/CRiMM, as distinguished guests. The competition showcased remarkable talent, with participants capturing compelling images that reflected both environmental challenges and the beauty of the natural world. Shields and certificates were awarded to the top three position holders:

🥈2nd Position: Haider Ramzan (Department of Environmental Sciences)
🥉 3rd Position: Cheetan Kumar (Department of Nursing)
Prof. Dr. Rab Nawaz (Head, Department of Environmental Sciences) expressed his gratitude to S.A.F.E Society and all participants for making the event a success and for using photography as a powerful medium to spread environmental awareness. In his concluding remarks Dean, FOS appreciated the Department of Environmental Sciences for organizing an impactful initiative that contributes meaningfully to environmental consciousness and sustainability.
