GRAND OPENING CEREMONY – SPORTS FEST 2026

On 16th February 2026, the Institute of Information Management, University of the Punjab marked the vibrant beginning of Sports Fest 2026 with an energetic and well-organized Grand Opening Ceremony.

The event officially commenced as our respected teachers cut the ribbon, symbolizing the start of a fest filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and healthy competition. What made the moment even more special was seeing our teachers actively participate in the games, sharing smiles and friendly competitive spirit with the students. Their involvement truly elevated the excitement of the ceremony.

The atmosphere was filled with cheers, enthusiasm, and unity as students gathered to celebrate not just sports, but community spirit. From vibrant décor to smooth management, every detail reflected the dedication and teamwork behind the scenes.

Beautifully organized by the IIM Literary Society, the opening ceremony set the perfect tone for an unforgettable Sports Fest 2026 — a celebration of energy, passion, and togetherness.

Institute of Information Management, University of the Punjab, in collaboration with The Pak Innovation Network (PIN), successfully conducted an insightful workshop on E-commerce, Graphic designing and Marketing, organaized by IIM Literary Society on 11 February 2026 at the Institute of Information Management (IIM).

The session began with Ms. Ayesha, CEO of PIN, who introduced her company, shared information about its innovative programs and courses, and highlighted opportunities for students to enhance their skills.

The workshop featured:

Zain Nadeem, a Sales & E-commerce expert who actively engaged the attendees with interactive and fun activities, making complex concepts of online selling easy to understand.
&
Usama Ehsan, UX/UI & Graphic Design mentor, guided students through the fundamentals of graphic designing and user experience, sharing practical tips and real-world examples to help them create visually appealing and user-friendly designs.

Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman, Director of IIM, thanked the audience for their participation and encouraged students to focus on developing their skills.

Dr. Muhammed Rafiq, IIM Students Affairs Coordinator, appreciated the efforts of the IIM Literary Society, spoke about PIN’s initiatives, and highlighted the importance of such workshops for student development.

Certificates of participation were awarded to all attendees, recognizing their engagement and commitment to learning.

The workshop successfully empowered students with practical knowledge and skills, preparing them for digital entrepreneurship and creative ventures.

The seminar From Records to Discovery: Metadata Creation Best Practices in LUMS Library opens with Dr. Alia Arshad welcoming attendees and introducing the event’s focus on transforming records into discoverable resources through metadata best practices. She then introduces the guest speaker, Mr. Imran Siddiqui, Librarian at LUMS, highlighting his expertise in metadata management. Mr. Siddiqui begins by explaining the seminar’s objective: showing how effective metadata turns raw records into accessible library resources. He defines metadata as structured information like title, author, and date that makes resources searchable and manageable, emphasizing its role in improving searchability, resource sharing, and preservation. The presentation walks through LUMS’s metadata workflow involving data capture, standardization using schemas such as Dublin Core or MARC21, quality control, and system integration. He showcases best practices including controlled vocabularies, interoperability, and regular audits, and shares a LUMS case study where metadata redesign increased resource discovery by 30%. Challenges like legacy data and inconsistent standards are discussed with solutions of unified frameworks and staff training. A Q&A session follows, allowing audience questions on metadata implementation. The seminar closes with Dr. Arshad thanking Mr. Siddiqui and summarizing key takeaways on refining metadata for better discovery, inviting attendees to further discussion and refreshments.

A great session on “Artificial Intelligence in Information Management” was held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Institute of Information Management (IIM), University of the Punjab, organized by the IIM Literary Society. The session featured Ali Mohiuddin Khan, a student of the same department, who shared his journey and valuable insights into the growing importance and practical use of Artificial Intelligence in the field of Information Management.

The discussion highlighted how AI is reshaping libraries, information systems, and knowledge management through AI-driven search, automated cataloging, chatbots, and data-based decision-making. The speaker presented complex ideas in a clear and relatable manner, motivating students to embrace AI skills to remain competitive in the evolving professional landscape.

The session concluded with Dr. Rafiq appreciating the efforts of the IIM Literary Society and the guest speaker. He encouraged other students to come forward and share their academic and professional journeys with fellow students. Today’s insightful session,
Organized by IIM Literary Society, Institute of Information Management
11 December 2025 featured Fatima Mushtaq, a talented student from our own department who has already made her mark as a BD Executive, Data Analyst, HR Director, Cybersecurity Consultant, and Graphic Designer.

She openly shared her freelancing journey — from taking her very first project as a student to handling multiple international clients. Fatima talked about the challenges she faced along the way:
• managing time with studies,
• dealing with setbacks,
• handling family pressure and discouraging remarks,
• and still choosing to stay consistent and true to her goals.

Her story resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring students to trust their skills, believe in gradual progress, and never underestimate the power of consistency.

We were honored by the presence of Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman and Dr. Rafiq, who appreciated the efforts of the Literary Society and praised the guest speaker for her achievements. They encouraged other students to come forward and share their own journeys, emphasizing that real experiences inspire more than anything.

At the end, the Literary Society presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Fatima Mushtaq for her valuable contribution and motivation to the students.
