Founded in 1922 with a capacity of 60 students, it now has a full-time enrollment of about 15,000 students.

Chairperson ,Zoology Department, LCWU actively took part in panel discussion and tree plantation on Importance of plantation; Environment issue and our responsibilities.This tree plantation campaign was spearheaded by the Worthy Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sahiba, who promoted planation campaigns within Punjab province. Chairman PHEC Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir joined as chief guest. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz encourged students to plant trees for the betterment of environment. Director Aghaz-e -sahar foundation Mr. Abdul Baloch provided plantation support to conduct event.

International World Bee Day was celebrated for the first time in the LCWU with the collaboration of Department of Zoology and K-BIC on 20.5.24. A groundbreaking workshop titled, "Entrepreneurship AI and Apiculture was held with UN World Bee Day theme 2024 "Bees engaged with youth". The organizers (Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid, Dr. Maria Anjum, Dr Saffora Riaz and Dr. Mahnoor Pervez) and invited speakers (Dr. M. Farooq Bhatti, Prof. Dr. M. Awais and Dr. Yasir Niaz) highlighted the critical role of bees in sustainable ecosystem and engaged Beekeeping industry with AI technology. Participants from multiple Departments were engaged in the workshop.
At the end of session Worthy VC Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz presented shields and certificates. She emphasized on the interdisciplinary collaboration for research exchange.

The students and faculty members of the Department of Zoology, LCWU Lahore under the supervision of their Chairperson Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid visited University of Okara (Sunday, 12-05-24) to observe and study the fossils collected by Dr. Muhammad Wajid PVC University of Okara. Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid appreciated the efforts of Dr. Muhammad Wajid in the collection and preservation of the unique fossil collection. The students and faculty participated in a plantation ceremony at the University of Okara. The delegates visited Head Baloki and Rana Resort for bird observation and identification of different fish species sold in the nearby fish market. Dr. Muhammad Wajid generously donated fossils of crocodile scutes, piece of turtle carapace, different vertebrae, skull of pig and bones of different mammals to LCWU as a gift for their Zoological museum.

Department of Zoology, LCWU, organized an awareness seminar regarding " World Migratory Bird Day " on 9.5.24, Thursday. The theme of this Seminar was to raise awareness about the importance of migratory birds and their conservation particularly. Honourable invited speaker Dr. Bushra Nisar Khan has been serving at the Institute of Zoology, Punjab University since 2010 . She is the winner of Ist Emerging Women Award 2023 from Governor Punjab. She highlighted the need to protect migratory birds and their habitats. It was inspiring to hear from an expert sharing insights and strategies to promote bird conservation. Chairperson of Zoology Department Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid heartily acknowledged the support and motivation of worthy Vice chancellor, Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz in conducting this event. She also appreciated the efforts of Prof. Dr. Saima Sharif and Dr. Mateen Arshad as organizers to arrange seminar regarding World Migratory Bird Day. She emphasized strongly on the importance of conservation measures to protect the species of endangered migratory birds. She gave a vote of thanks to Dr. Bushra for sharing indepth knowledge and her excellent expertise with students and faculty members. She gave a shield to the respected guest as a token of gratitude. She also expressed gratitude to the students who made a lot of effort in making wonderful charts and posters . It was very exciting for the students to do the field activity after the seminar with an expert, their HOD and teachers. They were thrilled to use spotting scope and special binoculars to observe the bird diversity of their own campus. Dr. Bushra also encouraged the students to identify the bird diversity found in LCWU campus particularly in upcoming months. She was very kind to offer her expertise and support in this regard. Seminar was very useful enriching the participant's knowledge about the diverse species of migratory birds, their incredible journeys, and the conservation efforts required to protect their habitats.

Faculty from the department of Zoology participated in a specialized micro-counseling training session organized by Career Guidance and Counseling Centre (CGCC) in a bid to enhance support services for students. The activity was held under the patronage of worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz and support of respected Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal. Resource persons of the event, Ms. Mamoona Riaz and Ms. Samina Uzair guided the faculty members with essential skills to better address the diverse mental health needs of students.

Ms. Huma Khurshid (Department of Zoology) has successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis on 30.04.2024 under the supervision of Dr. Fakhar un Nisa Yunus and Co-Supervision of Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor . The title of her Ph.D. thesis is "Study of site-directed mutagenesis of active cry proteins against spodoptera litura through overlapping PCR". She has successfully published her research in prestigious, peer-reviewed W category journals with impact factors. Completing a Ph.D. is a significant milestone. Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid, the chairperson of zoology department, for the department's remarkable achievement, and sincere appreciation for her outstanding leadership and dedication in overseeing the successful completion of the Ph.D. defense. Ms. Zaeema Usman (Department of Zoology) has successfully defended her PhD thesis on 26.04.2024 under the supervision of Dr. Zakia Kanwal and Co-Supervision of Dr. Asima Tayyab. The title of her PhD thesis is "EXPRESSION PROFILE OF INTERLEUKIN 1-BETA AND TUMOR NECROSIS FACTOR -ALPHA GENES IN Cirrhinus mrigala AGAINST MICROBIAL CHALLENGES ". She has published her research work in peer reviewed, high impact factor journals (W category). Completion of PhD is a milestone. Congratulation to chairperson of the Department Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid for glorious achievement of the Department and our deepest appreciation for her exceptional leadership and efforts in ensuring the successful conduction of the Ph.D. defense.

The Zoological Society for Life Sciences under the Zoology Department is extremely grateful to our worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz to help in commencing Hands on Training workshop on molecular Biology Techniques from April 24, 2024 to April 26, 2024 aiming to empower the participants with practical expertise in this cutting-edge technology. Chairperson, Department of Zoology, Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid extended warm welcome to all the attendees, expressing gratitude to all. She explained that how this workshop will help the students and faculty from diverse fields coming together to foster learning and innovation. Speakers including Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid,Prof. Dr. Saima Sharif and Dr. Shagufta Naz shared their expertise and indepth insight with the participants (students/faculty) from various departments i.e. Physics, Biotechnology,Chemistry and LCWU of LCWU, Punjab University, Education University, and Govt.
