The buds of art, and poetry and science have died in a thousand, thousand men and women, it is true. People continue to conform to such demands of society which require them to bid, with the flourish of an absolute finality, farewell to their imagination, hopes, dreams and aspirations if they concern themselves with art. And so, in them dies their youth, and their resolve and enterprise, and thus
ends their story, and what remains is but a shadow of everything they could have been. They live their lives with dashed hopes, with remorse and regret, and without ever having their true souls recognized by others. Realizing this, The Bestival team wishes to host their multi-category event once again. Bestival 2013, will not just be an opportunity for students from various academic establishments to showcase their talents but to promote a positive image of our prestigious institution, while also creating a sense of unity, belonging and responsibility amongst its students. De Stijl was a Dutch artistic movement founded in 1917, and ran into the 1930s when it met with widespread acclaim. The artistic philosophy of the said movement seeks to express a new utopian ideal of spiritual harmony and order, through pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and color. De Stijl seeks to emphasize ultimate simplicity and abstraction, both in by using only straight horizontal and vertical lines or rectangular forms, and using merely the primary colors, red, yellow, and blue, and the three primary values, black, white, and grey. BNU hopes to celebrate the movement, and in doing so, celebrate its message of attaining harmony and order, through simplicity and universality. It is, then, that Bestival would host a number of events which celebrate the basics of their respective disciplines, and would, therefore be, a good starting point for anyone looking to discover, re-discover and explore his or her latent skills, creativity and talent. BNU Bestival 2013 will include a string of events in a number of disciplines, spread over four days, which will allow students to showcase their latent skills, engage and interact with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds, learn from others and teach them, and build in themselves the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship through fair and healthy competition. The event will be hosted at the Tarogil campus. It is scheduled to take place in February 2013.
