On April 21st, 2026, Department of International Relations in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence of China Studies GC University, Lahore celebrated Diamond Jubilee of Pakistan-China relations honoring the unbreakable bond between the two Iron Brothers. The event was presided over by Dr. Ahmad Raza Khan, Incharge of the Department of International Relations. The Vice Chancellor GC University Lahore Dr Muhammad Omar Chaudhry graced the event as guest of honor.

The Chief Guest was His Excellency Sun Yan, the newly appointed Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Lahore. The continuation of Consul general need and merit based scholarships for the students of department of International relations was announced.
The event also observed the death anniversary of Allama Iqbal, the Poet of the East, which falls on April 21st across the Islamic world, his ideas and philosophy were also a major focus of the gathering. The Spring Festival was also celebrated as part of the occasion.

Students presented beautiful speeches and poetry on the theme of Pakistan China friendship, filling the event with warmth and cultural richness.
Important discussions took place on future academic collaborations including research programs, student exchange programs, and faculty exchange programs. Souvenirs were exchanged between His Excellency and the university representatives, gestures that hold immense value for both society and academia. Such events, the speakers agreed, are necessary to be conducted among academia to celebrate and strengthen the historic ties between Pakistan and China.
The event was further honored by the presence of the Dean of Social Sciences, Chief Librarian, In-Charge of the Political Science Department, Controller of Examinations, and other esteemed faculty members.

On 14th April, students of Department of International Relations organised a panel talk on the topic of "Rise of Mental Health Issues Among Youth Today." The panel consisted of Dr Salma Hasan Chairperson Department of Psychology, Dr Nasreen Akhtar Assistant Professor Department of Psychology GC University Lahore, and Miss Amna Asif Counsellor and Psychologist as well as Deputy Director Student Affairs at GC University Lahore.

The initiative was part of their academic project on working on a key sustainable development goal, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), particularly Target 3.4 which emphasises mental health conditions. Their initiative aimed to highlight the importance of mental health and encourage dialogue on this subject. Organising such mass level events boost student morale, make them confident to organise in their own capacity, help them learn, and is a way of experience in itself.

The session focused on distinct topics such as everyday struggles, academic pressures, social influences, and institutional roles. Such initiatives are encouraged by the Department of International Relations as these topics are necessary for discussion and student intellectual growth.

The Department of International Relations, Government College University Lahore, visited the **Turkish Education Expo 2026** on **1st April** as part of the Turkish Universities Fair, engaging in a series of meaningful academic interactions with leading Turkish institutions.

During the visit, the delegation met with Bayburt University, including an interaction with its Rector, Prof. Mutlu Türkmen. The team also held meetings with Fırat University and Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, where discussions were conducted with its Rector, Prof. Dr. Fatih Yılmaz.

Further engagements took place with Anadolu University, Boğaziçi University, and Adıyaman University, focusing on prospects for academic collaboration, student exchange programs, and joint research initiatives.

This visit underscores the department’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and advancing international academic engagement.

On this blessed occasion, we extend our heartfelt wishes to all, praying for peace, compassion, and unity. Eid is a time of reflection, reminding us of our shared values and our responsibility to stand with those enduring hardship around the world.
We remember with deep sorrow the lives lost in ongoing conflicts, in Gaza and Iran, and our prayers are with all those affected by violence and suffering. May this occasion renew our commitment to peace, justice, and human dignity.
We also pay tribute to the courage and sacrifices of those safeguarding Pakistan’s security, particularly along its western border. Their dedication and resilience remain a source of pride and strength for the nation.

May this Eid bring hope, healing, and unity for all.
