University of Home Economics Celebrates 79th Independence Day
Prof. Dr. Zaib-un-nisa Hussain hoists the national flag
LAHORE (Friday 14th August 2026): The University of Home Economics Lahore celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. The ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zaib-un-nisa Hussain, Registrar Dr. Muhammad Imran Kaukab, Dr. Ayesha Bilal, Director Student Affairs, Dr. Misbah Jabeen, Director Academics, Dr. Tayyaba Sohail faculty members, officers, staff, and a large number of students.
The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zaib-un-nisa Hussain, followed by the symbolic release of pigeons, representing peace, freedom, and hope.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Zaib-un-nisa Hussain said that Pakistan was achieved through the immense sacrifices of the country’s forefathers, who gave their lives and endured tremendous hardships for the dream of an independent homeland.
She emphasized that the freedom achieved through such sacrifices carries a profound responsibility for every citizen. “Every Pakistani must work together for the development, prosperity, and unity of the country,” she said, adding that Pakistan’s progress depends upon collective commitment, hard work, education, integrity, and national unity.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the important role of educational institutions in shaping responsible citizens and future leaders. She said that universities must not only provide quality education but also nurture patriotism, character, social responsibility, and a commitment to national development among young people.
The students of the University of Home Economics presented patriotic national songs (milli naghmay), expressing their love for Pakistan and paying tribute to the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle. Their performances added a vibrant patriotic spirit to the ceremony.
A poster competition on the theme of Independence Day was also organized among the students of the University. The students showcased their creativity and expressed their perspectives on Pakistan’s history, freedom, national identity, unity, and hopes for the country’s future through thought-provoking posters.
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zaib-un-nisa Hussain and Registrar Dr. Muhammad Imran Kaukab also participated in a tree plantation activity on the University campus. The activity symbolized the University’s commitment to environmental protection and a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Pakistan.
The ceremony concluded with renewed commitment by the University community to uphold the values of freedom, unity, peace, education, and national service, and to contribute positively to the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
