A two-day workshop on the "Prospects of Modern Beekeeping" was held on May 8-9, 2025, at the Department of Entomology, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM). The workshop aimed to emphasize the importance of modern beekeeping practices and explore innovative techniques to enhance honey production and pollination services.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Asad Ali, Chairman of the Department of Entomology, who highlighted the crucial role of bees in agriculture and biodiversity. He stressed the economic and ecological significance of beekeeping, particularly in the context of climate change and sustainable agriculture. Dr. Hussain Ali, Deputy Director in KP Agriculture Research System and an expert in beekeeping, was the invited speaker. He delivered lectures and live demonstrations on modern innovations in beekeeping, such as improved hive designs, disease management techniques, and smart beekeeping tools, which were well-received by the participants.
The workshop brought together
students, faculty members, and local beekeepers, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration between academia and the farming community. Prof. Dr. Farman Ali of the Department of Entomology delivered closing remarks, encouraging continued learning and application of modern practices in beekeeping. He also acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Fazal Said and Dr. Adil Hussain in organizing the workshop. Certificates were distributed to the organizers and participants, marking the successful conclusion of the event.
The workshop exemplified AWKUM's dedication to promoting applied sciences and empowering local communities through skill-based education and outreach.
