The Department of Economics, VUP in collaboration with ORIC hosted a successful webinar on "Economic Implications of Generative AI, AI Agents, and Agentic AI", attracting 150+ in-person and online participants, including students, faculty members, and representatives from the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC).
Keynote speaker Dr. Muhammad Shakeel explained the different types of AI and argued that standard economic models must be updated to measure AI's value, contribution to productivity, and pricing. He stressed the need for Pakistan to boost AI literacy and digital skills to leverage its youth population and meet evolving labor demands.
The discussion covered crucial policy concerns, including AI taxation, unemployment risks, and the need for clear regulatory policies and data governance. Participants actively engaged by answering conceptual questions and raising concerns related to inclusive AI policies, regulatory clarity, data breach risks, and transparent data governance.
