The Institution was established as Government Degree College for Women on 1st September,1947. Since independence,

it enjoys the unparalleled prestige of being the “FIRST" Degree College for Women. Initially, only Arts subjects were taught here. and B.Sc. classes were introduced in 1953 and 1962 respectively. The Department of M.A English and M.Sc Psychology have been very successfully working since1986, 1990 respectively. Now BS in 14 subjects and MA/MSc. in 7 subjectshave successfully introduced.
