Educational Visit of DVM Students to Abedin International (Pvt.) Limited โ€“ Advancing Veterinary Learning Through Practical Abattoir Exposure.

DVM students from the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, had the privilege of visiting Abedin International (Pvt.) Limited Lahore as part of a meaningful educational and professional field learning activity on 9/5/2026.

This visit served as an excellent opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world veterinary practice. Students gained practical exposure to abattoir operations and developed a deeper understanding of the vital role of veterinarians in ensuring safe meat production, food safety, animal welfare, zoonotic disease prevention, and public health protection.

During the visit, students gained valuable insight into key areas, including Ante-Mortem and Post-Mortem Inspection, Hygienic Meat Production, Meat Quality and Safety Assessment, Zoonotic Disease Risk Identification, Animal Welfare during Slaughter, Slaughterhouse Management Practices, and Public Health and One Health Application.

The visit was conducted under the valuable guidance of Dr. Irtaza Hussain Sahu (Organizer), Dr. Sheraz Ahmed Bhatti, and Dr. Shoaib Azeem. Their professional guidance, academic support, and insightful explanations made this visit highly informative, practical, and inspiring for the students.

The Chairman Department of Pathobiology, Dr Atif Nisar Ahmed extended sincere gratitude to the management and team of Abedin International (Pvt.) Limited Lahore for their warm hospitality, cooperation, and for providing students with an excellent platform for hands-on learning and professional exposure. Such educational visits play a significant role in shaping future veterinarians by strengthening their clinical judgment, field competence, professional confidence, and responsibility toward both animal and human health.

A "Hands-On Training in Kit-Based Bacterial Identification" was recently organized in the Department of Pathobiology for the students of DVM (Morning and Evening Sessions 2024-29). Organized by Dr. Muhammad Akbar Shahid, Assistant Professor of Microbiology, the workshop provided students with practical experience in advanced diagnostic techniques. Participants learned bacterial isolation and identification using the QTS-24 kit, covering the entire workflow from culture media preparation, inoculation, and strip incubation. The session concluded with the interpretation of results based on standardized criteria. Dr Atif Nisar Ahmad, The Chairman of the Department of Pathobiology, commended Dr. Shahid for his efforts in organizing this session and enhancing the students' practical learning experience.

On April 28, 2026, students of the DVM Evening Batch 2023-28 conducted a systematic postmortem examination of a sheep under the supervision of Dr. Irtaza Hussain, Assistant Professor (Pathology). This hands-on activity served as an essential tool for the students to determine the cause of death and correlate clinical signs with pathological findings. By examining the thoracic and abdominal cavities, the students observed organs in their natural positions and identified critical changes, including congestion, hemorrhages, parasitic infestation, and trauma-related lesions in the lungs, heart, liver, and kidneys. This practical session was vital for developing necropsy skills and improving the students' understanding of gross pathology. Ultimately, the exercise provided valuable diagnostic exposure, helping to shape competent veterinary professionals through systematic investigation. The Chairman Department of Pathobiology Dr. Atif Nisar Ahmad appreciated Dr. Irtaza Hussain for organizing such activities for better understanding of the veterinary graduates. He further appreciated the department's commitment to organizing practical sessions that ensure our graduates are field-ready.

"Theory meets reality in the necropsy hall! ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ”ฌ
Today, our 6th Semester DVM students took their learning beyond the textbook. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Irtaza Hussain, students conducted a postmortem examination to bridge the gap between clinical signs and internal pathology. This 'quality control' for diagnosis is essential for mastering veterinary medicine.
By identifying gross lesions and determining the cause of death, our students are gaining the hands-on experience needed to become top-tier clinicians.
Chairman Dr. Atif Nisar Ahmad appreciated the department's commitment to organizing practical sessions that ensure our graduates are field-ready. ๐ŸŒŸ
