Alhamdulillah!
A Proud Moment for the Department of Psychology, University of Okara πŸŽ‰
The Department of Psychology made its mark at the University of Okara Sports Gala by securing three trophies in female sports events Runner-up in Badminton, Ready Go, and Tug of War.
This year, no other department achieved three trophies in female categories, which makes this achievement even more special.
This success is not accidental. Over the past three years, the focus has been on practical learning, teamwork, confidence-building, resilience, and real-world exposure. Today, our students proved that Psychology is not only about theories and classrooms it’s about strength, discipline, courage, and presence in every field.
We are immensely proud of our Psychology students for their dedication, fighting spirit, and unity. You represented the department with grace and power. This journey has just begun, and there’s much more to come, InshaAllah.
Love you Psychology. Love you all. ✨☝
Stay champion πŸ€©πŸŽ‰πŸ‘

πŸŽ“ Department of Psychology Outreach Program – Addressing Social Issues in Marginalized Communities 🌍

Today, under the guidance of our esteemed Head of Department, Ms. Ayesha Jabbar, and the dedicated efforts of faculty members Ms. Namra Yousaf, Ms. Sabeela Sahar Ch., and Ms. Aqsa Muzaffar, the Department of Psychology conducted a visit to a brick kiln to address and explore significant societal concerns affecting vulnerable communities.

During the visit, our team observed:

Child Labor: A heartbreaking reality that deprives children of education, health, and a promising future, often leading to psychosocial issues like anxiety, depression, and lack of self-worth due to exploitation and overwork at a young age.
Cousin Marriages and Associated Health Concerns: A cultural practice with notable health and psychological consequences.
Cousin marriages increase the risk of genetic disorders such as thalassemia, congenital heart defects, and developmental delays due to the inheritance of recessive genes.
These disorders often lead to mental health challenges for affected families, including stress, guilt, and emotional trauma.

Educating communities on these risks is vital for breaking the cycle of inherited diseases and fostering healthier family systems.
Labor Issues: The exploitation of workers in harsh conditions results in psychological distress, burnout, and feelings of helplessness. Workers and their families are often trapped in a cycle of poverty and social inequality, contributing to mental health challenges such as chronic stress and depression.
Psychosocial Impact on Communities: The lack of access to education, healthcare, and social support systems leaves these communities vulnerable to mental health crises and a diminished sense of well-being.

Our department is committed to connecting psychological research and practices with real-world problems to improve lives. By addressing the psychosocial and mental health challenges in marginalized areas, we aim to foster awareness, resilience, and empowerment among these communities. The observations and insights from this visit will guide our future interventions for creating meaningful and lasting change.
πŸ’‘ Together, We Can Make a Difference!
Share this post to spread awareness about these critical issues and support the movement for healthier, empowered communities.
