🌍 World Thalassemia Awareness Day | Multidisciplinary Seminar

Peshawar Dental College successfully organized a Multidisciplinary Seminar on Thalassemia on 6th June 2026 in observance of World Thalassemia Awareness Day, with a special academic focus on oral manifestations of thalassemia and their clinical management.

The seminar was attended by senior faculty members and undergraduate students and formally commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Final-year BDS students, organized into five multidisciplinary groups, actively led the academic discourse, with each group represented by a dedicated presenter, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and evidence-based learning.

The student-led presentations were systematically structured as follows:

Group A: Introduction & epidemiology
Group B: Classifications and mode of inheritance
Group C: Clinical presentation and treatment
Group D: Oral manifestations
Group E: Prevention

The presentations comprehensively covered the epidemiology, genetics, clinical spectrum, treatment approaches, preventive strategies, and oral health implications of thalassemia, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, preventive dental care, and interdisciplinary management.

A dedicated session emphasized oral and dental considerations in thalassemic patients, reinforcing the role of dentists in preventive care, patient education, and multidisciplinary clinical coordination.

Prof. Dr. Hasham Khan (Acting Dean) shared valuable expert insights on the dental management of pediatric patients with thalassemia, enriching the seminar with practical clinical perspectives. Faculty members provided constructive feedback to encourage critical thinking, academic excellence, and professional growth among students.

A meaningful step towards accessible healthcare and brighter futures was marked with the inauguration of a dedicated Dental Unit at Mercy Educational Complex, Peshawar.

Mercy Educational Complex is currently home to more than 400 children from Prep to Class 10, where they are not only provided with free education and lodging, but are also empowered with valuable technical skills including tailoring, mobile repair, AC repair, mechanical, and electrical training.

To further strengthen student healthcare services, Peshawar Dental College established an on-site Dental Unit to ensure easy and timely access to quality dental care for these children. A dedicated faculty team voluntarily committed their services for the wellbeing of the students, reflecting the true spirit of community service and compassionate healthcare leadership.

The event was attended by the management of both Mercy Educational Complex and Peshawar Dental College, including: • Dr. Ijaz and his team representing Mercy Educational Complex

World Oral Health Day Celebrations | Dental Symposium 2026

The Dental Symposium 2026, organized in celebration of World Oral Health Day, was held with great success, reflecting a strong commitment to oral health awareness, preventive dentistry, dental education, and professional excellence at Peshawar Dental College.

The symposium was chaired by Prof. Dr. Farzeen Khan (HoD, Department of Community & Preventive Dentistry, PDC), with Associate Prof. Dr. Aamir Hameed serving as Co-Chairman. Their leadership, dedication, and teamwork, along with the tireless efforts of the organizing committee, ensured the smooth and successful ex*****on of this major academic and public health event.

The opening ceremony commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Dr. Hasham (Acting Dean, PDC). The event was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Swati (Director Campus, Riphah International University); Guests of Honour Prof. Dr. Najib ul Haq and Prof. Dr. Hafeez ur Rehman; Dr. Saeed Anwar (Executive Director); and Prof. Dr. Aman (HoD Community Health Sciences, PMC).
The ceremony officially began with a ribbon-cutting inauguration, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks presented by Prof. Dr. Shahab (Vice Principal Administration).

A key highlight of the day was the Oral Health Awareness Walk, where students and faculty actively promoted oral hygiene, preventive dental care, and community oral health awareness. This was followed by a tea session with the guests. Students enthusiastically participated in multiple competitions, which were judged by senior faculty members, fostering academic growth and healthy competition.
