8th Board of Studies (BoS) Meeting – Department of Allied Health Sciences

The Department of Allied Health Sciences (DAHS), CECOS University of IT and Emerging Sciences, successfully conducted its 8th Board of Studies (BoS) meeting on 14th April 2026. The session was convened by Dr. Zia Ullah Shah (HoD, DAHS) and was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Fazal Subhan (Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences), along with distinguished external members including Dr. Usman Ameen, Dr. Muhammad Ilyas and Dr. Behram Khan, who shared their valuable insights and expert recommendations.

The meeting focused on reviewing and enhancing the academic curriculum, ensuring quality education, and promoting continuous improvement in allied health sciences.

Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) 5th and 7th Semester's students conducted an academic study visit to the Tarnab Agriculture and Research Institute, Peshawar led by Mr. Zeeshan and Mr. Abdullah, where they gained practical exposure to advanced analytical instruments including High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography-Mass spectrometry (LC-MS), Inductive Coupled Plasma (ICP), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), and Flame Photometer. This visit provided valuable insights into modern techniques used in Diagnostic and research medical labs.

Official Study Visit to KMU PHRL & ACGT Sequencing Laboratories

Students of MLT 7th Semester participated in an official study visit to the Khyber Medical University Public Health Reference Laboratory (KMU-PHRL) and Advanced Centre for Genomic Technologies (ACGT) Sequencing Labs. During the visit, students were comprehensively briefed on the overall role and functioning of a public health reference and advanced molecular diagnostics laboratory. Detailed orientations were given on various laboratory sections, including biosafety and biosecurity units, with emphasis on standard safety protocols, risk assessment, and containment measures. The students also visited microbiology, molecular biology, and research & development laboratories, where experts explained PCR-based diagnostic workflows and the process of PCR kit development, highlighting their application in disease detection and surveillance. Additionally, practical demonstrations were provided on general laboratory operations, sample transportation systems, proper sample handling techniques, and quality assurance practices. The visit concluded with informative sessions on waste segregation and biomedical waste management, underscoring the importance of compliance with biosafety and environmental regulations. Overall, the study visit proved to be a valuable academic and professional exposure, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world laboratory practices.

On August 27, 2025, the Department of Allied Health Sciences successfully organized a comprehensive workshop on Quality Assurance, Biosafety & Biosecurity. Our esteemed speaker, Mr. Sami Ullah, Lecturer,(MLT) delivered an enlightening session and conducted hands-on practical demonstrations, including donning and doffing techniques, to emphasize the importance of stringent biosafety and biosecurity protocols.
