It is a Federal State University with its headquarters in Islamabad, while its three institutions are located in Rawalpindi. The institutions include Foundation University Institute of Management and Computer Sciences (FUIMCS) formerly known as Fauji Foundation Institute of Management and Computer Sciences (FFIMCS), Foundation University Medical College (FUMC) formerly known as Fauji Foundation Me

dical College (FFMC) and Foundation University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (FUCLAS). It is run by the Fauji Foundation, the foundation for the ex-service army personnel in Pakistan. In a university category list issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in 2005, Foundation University was placed in the "A" category, along with other top universities of Pakistan such as LUMS, NUST, FAST, IIUI etc. Foundation University Institute of Engineering and Management Science
FUIEMS was established in 1998, as FUIEMS, and consists of three Faculties i.e. FUIEMS was one of the few Pakistani institutes offering Bachelors in Software Engineering.
