The poultry digestive system is a specialized and efficient system designed for processing various types of feed. It starts with the beak, which helps in pecking and initial processing of food. The food then travels down the esophagus to the crop, where it is stored and softened. From there, it moves to the proventriculus (glandular stomach) where digestive enzymes begin breaking it down. The partially digested food then enters the ventriculus (muscular stomach or gizzard), where it is ground up by muscular contractions and ingested grit. The digested food continues through the small intestine for nutrient absorption, and the waste is finally excreted through the cloaca. This system allows poultry to efficiently convert feed into energy and growth.

The Nutrition and Feed Colloquium and training workshop on Feed Formulation, held on August 29-30, 2024, at PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Pakistan, was a significant scientific event. Organized by the World Poultry Science Association - Pakistan and the Department of Livestock Stock Production and Management, and sponsored by the US Soy Export Council USA, Jadeed Group of Companies, and WPSA Netherlands, the event garnered substantial participation. With over two hundreds attendees, the colloquium and workshop featured prominent speakers, including Matthew Clerk from UK, Dr. Reza Adbollahi from Massey University, New Zealand, Dr. Susil from Sri Lanka, Dr, Usama Aftab Singapore, Ms. Deeba from the USA, and several experts from Pakistan. Addressing vital aspects of nutrition and feed, the event contributed to advancing poultry science and fostering international collaboration.
