Strengthening Quality Excellence at HANDS IDS

HANDS Institute of Development Studies successfully organized a mandatory Faculty Orientation Session on Thursday April 09, 2025 on Introduction to Ripe - Review of Institutional Performance & Enhancement (RIPE), a key requirement of the Higher Education Commission’s Quality Assurance Agency (HEC QAA) under the Pakistan Precepts, Standards and Guidelines (PSG-2023) framework.
The session was expertly conducted by Dr. Rakhshinda Khurrum, Deputy Director, Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), HANDS IDS. It aimed to equip faculty and staff with a clear understanding of the 16 RIPE standards spanning three major development areas: Institutional Strategic Development, Academic Quality Development, and Institutional Development.
Key Highlights of the Session:
• Detailed Explanation of the 16 Standards: Dr. Rakhshinda Khurrum walked participants through each standard, covering Expectations, Expected Outcome Indicators (EOIs), and Indicative Evidence.
• Document Requirements & Compliance: Emphasis was placed on the importance of proper documentation, evidence collection, and robust compliance processes to support Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
• Review Process & Stakeholder Involvement: A step-by-step overview of the RIPE process was provided, highlighting the active role of faculty and staff in internal quality assurance (IQA) and preparation for external quality assurance (EQA).
• Practical Guidance: Participants gained insights into how RIPE fosters a culture of excellence, accountability, and ongoing enhancement in higher education institutions.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Abu Zar Wajidi, Rector, HANDS IDS, appreciated the insightful and comprehensive delivery by Dr. Rakhshinda Khurrum. He underscored the critical role of RIPE in achieving Total Quality Management (TQM) and its strategic importance for the sustained growth and academic excellence of HANDS Institute of Development Studies.
This orientation reflects HANDS IDS’s strong commitment to quality assurance, alignment with HEC guidelines, and building a robust internal quality culture that benefits students, faculty, and the broader community.

What a beautiful way to celebrate the spirit of Eid! Today, the Management and Staff of HANDS-IDS came together for a delightful Eid Milan Party, filled with laughter, warmth, and pure festive joy.
Heartfelt thanks to the dynamic event management team behind this celebration: Ms. Mahrin (Students Affairs), Ms. Rakshinda Khurram (QEC), Mr. Muhammad Kashif, and Mr. Mahesh Hotwani (Administration) for organizing such a wonderful gathering with so much love and energy.
Our respected Rector, Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Abu Zar Wajidi graced the occasion with inspiring remarks, beautifully highlighting the true festivity of Eid, the importance of coming together, sharing lighter moments, and bonding over a warm cup of tea. His words reminded us all how these simple joys strengthen our community.
A lavish spread of refreshments was served, and the air was buzzing with smiles, cheerful conversations, and that special Eid magic.

پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی —
ریکٹر (وائس چانسلز ) ہینڈز انسٹیٹیوٹ آف ڈیولپمنٹ اسٹڈیز

حوصلہ اور علم کی درخشاں داستان
برصغیر کی تاریخ میں 1971ء ایک ایسا المیہ ہے جس نے لاکھوں انسانوں کی زندگیاں بدل دیں۔ انہی حالات کی بھٹی میں تپ کر ابھرنے والی شخصیات میں ایک نمایاں نام پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی کا ہے ایک ایسا انسان جس نے ہجرت، محرومی اور مشکلات کو اپنی کمزوری نہیں بلکہ طاقت بنایا، اور علم و تحقیق کی دنیا میں اپنا ایک روشن مقام پیدا کیا۔
ابتدائی زندگی اور خواب
ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی کا تعلق بہار کے ممتاز خاندان سے تھا جو مشرقی پاکستان (موجودہ بنگلہ دیش) میں جا کر بسے۔ بچپن ہی سے ان کے دل میں علم حاصل کرنے اور استاد بننے کا ایک واضح خواب موجود تھا۔ یہ کوئی معمولی خواہش نہ تھی، بلکہ ایک ایسا عزم تھا جو حالات کے طوفانوں کے باوجود قائم رہا۔
ان کے اندر تدریس کا شوق اس قدر گہرا تھا کہ وہ کم عمری ہی سے اپنے آپ کو ایک معلم کے روپ میں دیکھتے تھے ایسا معلم جو نہ صرف علم دے بلکہ کردار بھی بنائے۔
سقوطِ ڈھاکہ اور ہجرت کی آزمائش
1971ء کے سانحہ نے ان کی زندگی کا رخ یکسر بدل دیا۔ مشرقی پاکستان کے حالات بگڑنے کے بعد وہ بھی اُن لاکھوں افراد میں شامل تھے جو لٹے پٹے، بے سروسامانی کے عالم میں پاکستان (کراچی) پہنچے۔
یہ ہجرت صرف جسمانی نہ تھی بلکہ جذباتی اور نفسیاتی بھی تھی۔ اپنا گھر، اپنی پہچان، اپنا ماضی سب کچھ پیچھے رہ گیا۔ مگر ایسے کٹھن وقت میں بھی انہوں نے ہمت نہ ہاری۔
کراچی میں نئی شروعات
کراچی پہنچ کر انہوں نے ایک نئی زندگی کا آغاز کیا۔ محدود وسائل، اجنبی ماحول اور سخت حالات کے باوجود انہوں نے تعلیم کا سلسلہ جاری رکھا۔ یہی وہ مقام تھا جہاں ان کے خواب نے حقیقت کا روپ دھیرے دھیرے اختیار کرنا شروع کیا۔
انہوں نے اپنی محنت، لگن اور قابلیت کے بل بوتے پر تعلیمی میدان میں نمایاں مقام حاصل کیا اور بالآخر جامعہ کراچی سے وابستہ ہو گئے۔
جامعہ کراچی میں خدمات
جامعہ کراچی میں ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی نے کئی اہم عہدوں پر خدمات انجام دیں، جن میں شامل ہیں:

بین الاقوامی اعزازات اور پہچان
ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی کی خدمات کو صرف پاکستان ہی نہیں بلکہ عالمی سطح پر بھی سراہا گیا۔
وہ انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف چارٹرڈ مینیجرز پاکستان کے فیلو ہیں۔
انہیں رائل سوسائٹی آف میڈیسن کی فیلوشپ بھی حاصل ہے، جو ایک بڑا اعزاز سمجھا جاتا ہے۔
ان کا نام رائل سوسائٹی آف میڈیسن، لندن کی “Wall of Honour” پر بھی درج ہے جو ان کی علمی خدمات کا عالمی اعتراف ہے۔
اس کے علاوہ:
وہ Association on Employment Principles and Practices (AEPP), New York کے پاکستان چیپٹر کے صدر رہے۔
اور Council of Employees Responsibilities and Rights (CERR) کے جرنل سے بھی بطور رکن وابستہ رہے۔
شخصیت اور علمی خدمات
ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی نہ صرف ایک استاد بلکہ ایک رہنما، منتظم اور محقق بھی ہیں۔ ان کی شخصیت میں سادگی، محنت اور علم دوستی نمایاں ہے۔
انہوں نے اپنی زندگی سے یہ ثابت کیا کہ:
حالات چاہے کتنے ہی ناموافق کیوں نہ ہوں، اگر انسان کے اندر سیکھنے اور آگے بڑھنے کا جذبہ ہو تو وہ اپنی تقدیر خود لکھ سکتا ہے۔
نتیجہ
پروفیسر ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی کی زندگی ایک سبق ہے خاص طور پر اُن لوگوں کے لیے جو مشکلات کو اپنی راہ کی رکاوٹ سمجھتے ہیں۔
مشرقی پاکستان سے ہجرت، محرومی، اور جدوجہد کے باوجود انہوں نے نہ صرف اپنے خواب کو حقیقت بنایا بلکہ پاکستان کے نمایاں اساتذہ میں اپنا نام بھی شامل کروایا۔
یہ داستان ہمیں یاد دلاتی ہے کہ اصل کامیابی وہی ہے جو آزمائشوں کے بعد حاصل ہو اور ڈاکٹر ابو زر واجدی اس کی ایک روشن مثال ہیں۔

آج ورلڈ سپیرو ڈے ہے. 🐦
دنیا بھر میں لوگ عام چڑیوں کی بات کر رہے ہیں، مگر کیا آپ جانتے ہیں کہ سندھ کی وادی کو اللہ نے ایک ایسا خزانہ بخشا ہے جو پوری دنیا میں صرف اور صرف یہاں پایا جاتا ہے؟
سندھ چڑیا — ہماری مٹی کا زندہ فخر، ہماری شناخت کا چھوٹا سا پرندہ، جو کوئی اور جگہ نہیں ملتا!
عام گھریلو چڑیا سے کیوں مختلف؟
یہ دیکھنے میں تو ویسی ہی لگتی ہے، مگر پرندوں کے ماہرین اسے الگ نوع (Passer pyrrhonotus) قرار دیتے ہیں۔ فرق دیکھیں تو دل دھک دھک کرتا ہے:

منفرد رہائش: جہاں عام چڑیا گھروں کی چھتوں پر بسیرا کرتی ہے، وہیں سندھ چڑیا دریائے سندھ کے کناروں، سرسبز گھاس کے میدانوں، ببول کی جھاڑیوں اور نیم صحرائی علاقوں میں گھر بناتی ہے — جہاں سورج طلوع ہوتا ہے تو لگتا ہے کہ قدرت خود رنگ بکھیر رہی ہے!
جسمانی دلکشی: عام چڑیا سے تھوڑی چھوٹی اور دبلی پتلی۔ نر چڑیا کے سر کے پیچھے ایک سرخی مائل بھورا دھبہ جو اسے بادشاہت کا تاج دے دیتا ہے!
قدرتی چھلاوہ: اس کا مٹیالا رنگ اسے سندھ کے صحرا میں ایسے چھپا دیتا ہے جیسے مٹی نے خود اسے گلے لگا لیا ہو — دشمن دیکھ بھی نہیں پاتا!

یہ پرندہ صرف ایک جاندار نہیں…
یہ وادی سندھ کی قدیم تہذیب کی زندہ گواہی ہے.
انیسویں صدی میں برطانوی ماہر حیوانیات ایڈورڈ بلیتھ نے اسے پہلی بار سائنسی طور پر دریافت کیا۔ تب سے یہ سندھ کی مٹی کا زندہ نشان بن گیا۔
سندھ کی مٹی نہ صرف موہن جو دڑو اور ہڑپہ کی امین ہے، بلکہ ان معصوم، نایاب اور منفرد پرندوں کی بھی ماں ہے جو ہماری شناخت کو ہر روز مزید خوبصورت بناتے ہیں۔
اب وقت ہے عہد کرنے کا....
آئیے ہم سب مل کر وعدہ کریں:
اپنے دریاؤں، جھاڑیوں، گھاس کے میدانوں اور قدرتی جنگلوں کی حفاظت کریں گے…
تاکہ سندھ کی یہ منفرد چڑیا ہمیشہ ہمارے میدانوں میں چہچہاتی رہے، ہماری نسلوں کو فخر دیتی رہے!
اور یہ عہد صرف الفاظ نہیں… یہ عمل کا نام ہے۔
اس لیے تو HANDS IDS کے بی بی اے اور بی ایس ڈیولپمنٹ سٹڈیز کے طلبہ روزانہ سیکھ رہے ہیں کہ کیسے ماحولیات، معیشت اور ثقافت کو ایک ساتھ جوڑ کر سندھ کو ترقی یافتہ اور سبز بنایا جائے۔
وہ نہیں صرف پڑھتے ہیں… وہ سندھ کے مستقبل کو ڈیزائن کر رہے ہیں۔
