🌍Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, in collaboration with HOOPO Canada, has launched a landmark initiative to establish 100 carbon-neutral villages across Sindh, with implementation already underway in six pilot villages.
The project aims to address climate change, food insecurity, and rural poverty through science-based, community-driven solutions that promote sustainable livelihoods and environmental protection.
During a special Ramadan-2026 ceremony held at the University Senate Hall, Carbon Action Tokens (CATs) were distributed among students, semester fee cheques were awarded, and the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign was formally inaugurated. Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal attended as Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of student entrepreneurship and Nature-Based Solutions in tackling environmental and socio-economic challenges.
The initiative integrates environmental sustainability, food security, and economic empowerment through:
✅ Plantation of moringa and fruit trees supported by biochar
✅ Climate-smart livestock management and farmer training
✅ Community food banks and nutrition initiatives
✅ Student research funding and green startups
✅ Monthly incentives for climate action through CATs
So far, research funding has supported undergraduate interns and MSc students, while innovative student startups like Agri-Clima AI and Moringa Anda Paratha have begun achieving commercial success.
The ceremony concluded with plantation of 100 moringa saplings at the Faculty of Crop Protection, symbolizing SAU’s commitment to a greener, climate-resilient, and sustainable future.
