Master of Science in Environment Protection - the studies are intended for those who want to become specialists able to identify and evaluate the biotic components of ecosystems in accordance with the current rules and regulations of the national and European law. The graduates will be able to evaluate and interpret various ecological processes, especially those that are important for making any d
ecisions about the environment. Moreover, the graduates will be acquainted with the methods of effective team work (i.e. how to choose the leader, share responsibilities, and how to interpret the results of their analyses and draw conclusions in a team). The programme of the studies offers a number of courses which will teach the students how to find and define research problems, obtain and analyse data collected from different sources, consult with experts, use statistical methods, and interpret as well as present the results of their analyses. Besides this, the students will learn how to prepare projects according to the official directives of the European Union to apply for financial support for the development, management, and conservation of the environment, both at the regional and national levels. The graduate student is expected to be fluent in English specialised terminology, and to be able to prepare documents concerning management and environmental protection in conformity with the law of the European Union. The graduates should meet all requirements of the labour market, including institutions, expert companies, and businesses associated with environmental protection, or those focused on natural resources. Some of the acquired skills (such as: classification of habitats, identification of endangered species, natural compensation, standardised environmental management systems, and evaluation services of ecosystems) will be certificated by the Department of Biology at AMU. The whole programme contains 1252 hours of lectures, laboratory classes, workshops, seminars, and field trips. The major part of the programme offers practical workshops, the so-called “journal clubs”, and lectures conducted by experts from abroad. Moreover, there will be guest visits to innovative companies, where the students will learn about environmentally friendly technologies, and the solutions implemented there to protect the environment. The students will be told about the needs of the labour market and will learn about the rules that govern running businesses and companies. Some of the offered courses will be conducted via an e-learning platform. The courses will be taught by instructors from the Faculty of Biology (AMU), the Faculty of Chemistry (AMU), and from Poznań University of Economics.
