🧬 Researchers at PUM bring cancer diagnostics a step into the future!
A team from the Pomeranian Medical University — Prof. Tomasz Wojdacz and Jan Bińkowski — has developed machine learning models that can classify cancers using epigenetic “fingerprints” on DNA. Their study has been accepted in principle for publication in Genome Medicine ( IF 13.8 ) .
🔍 What makes this breakthrough special:
• analysis of ~17,000 DNA methylation profiles,
• two high accuracy models (≥ 0.9) identifying 54 tissue/cancer types and 59 CNS tumor types,
• potential use in liquid biopsy, offering a non invasive diagnostic option.
🌍 WHO already recommends DNA methylation based diagnostics for CNS tumors — this research shows the approach may work for many other cancers too.

🤝 PUM Strengthens Ties with Hôpital Nord in Marseille

Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin is expanding its scientific and clinical collaboration with the renowned Hôpital Nord in Marseille. During a two‑week fellowship, Dr Maciej Ziętek, Associate Professor at PUM joined the work of one of France’s leading perinatology centers, gaining insight into advanced prenatal diagnostics, high‑risk pregnancy care, and innovative fetal therapy procedures.
Long‑standing cooperation with Prof. Claude D’Ercole continues to open new opportunities for joint research, clinical exchanges, and the implementation of top European standards in perinatology at PUM.

Vietnamese Ambassador Visits Szczecin to Strengthen Academic Cooperation

We were honored to host H.E. Dr. Ha Hoang Hai, Ambassador of Vietnam to Poland, during his official visit to Szczecin. The meeting brought together the rectors of Szczecin’s leading universities to discuss the development of academic collaboration, scientific partnerships, and student exchange initiatives between Poland and Vietnam.

The discussions highlighted the growing interest of Vietnamese students in pursuing higher education in Poland, including at universities in Szczecin. Participants explored opportunities to expand joint research projects, mobility programs, and long‑term institutional cooperation.

Szczecin to Host the 4th Congress of the Polish Society of Pediatric Orthopedics 🇵🇱🦴

From 21–23 May 2026, Szczecin will bring together specialists from across Poland for the 4th Congress of the Polish Society of Pediatric Orthopedics, held alongside the 60th anniversary of the Clinic of Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Pomeranian Medical University.

The event will feature scientific sessions, expert‑led courses, and discussions on key topics — including a strong focus on musculoskeletal tumors in children and oncological vigilance. The Szczecin center, led by Prof. Daniel Kotrych, is one of Europe’s leading hubs in pediatric orthopedic oncology.

The Congress will also include practical workshops, presentations of 43 original scientific papers, and reporting‑and‑election sessions summarizing the Society’s recent activities.

A major opportunity for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and advancing pediatric orthopedic care.

Today, May 11th, 2026, the new Examination Test Center at Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin officially underwent its trial launch 🩺📚

This marks an important step toward a more modern, efficient, and student-friendly examination process. From now on, an entire year group will be able to take theoretical exams simultaneously — on the same day and at the same time.

Each student is provided with an individual examination booth, ensuring comfort, focus, and appropriate working conditions during the exam.

Modern solutions, better organization, and equal conditions for all students — this is the future of examinations at PUM.
