🎉 Huge congratulations to our colleague and Academia Iuvenum member, Lukasz Sterczewski, PhD, DSc, on his admission to the Academia Professorum Iuniorum at Politechnika Wrocławska. 🎉

Daily, he researches infrared light sources for spectroscopic applications.

His interests include semiconductor lasers, organic materials for nonlinear frequency conversion, and interferometric techniques. In 2023, he was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) grant for research titled: „TeraERC - Chip-based room-temperature terahertz frequency comb spectrometers”.

In 2025, he received funding for the project “SWIRLS – Sensitive Wideband Infrared Laser Spectroscopy” as part of a Swiss-Polish competition organized by the National Centre for Research and Development.

Academia Professorum Iuniorum (API) is an elite program established by Wrocław University of Science and Technology to identify, support, and promote the development of outstanding young independent researchers (habilitation degree holders) with international potential, representing various disciplines at WUST.

We warmly congratulate him on this success and wish him continued scientific achievements, inspiring research projects, and further distinctions! 👏

AIM kicked off the holiday season early today as current and previous members gathered for a small but no less cheerful Christmas celebration. 🎄 Alongside traditional Christmas dishes, we enjoyed a chance to catch up, network, and put our knowledge to the test with a Christmas-themed pub quiz that brought out our competitive (but still friendly!) spirit.

A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us, with extra special thanks to the organising committee for putting together this lovely event. 🎉

Warm wishes to those who couldn’t make it today, and big congratulations to the Reindeers team for taking home the pub-quiz victory! 🏆

Today we celebrated the 80th birthday of Politechnika Wrocławska! 🎉
As several speakers noted during the ceremony, reaching this milestone is not just a celebration of the past — it’s a great opportunity for even more scientific and technological breakthroughs in the years ahead. We wish our University many more successful and inspiring decades to come!

But here at AIM, we already have plenty to celebrate. We’re proud to recognize all the current and former AIM members who received the Rector’s Awards and Scientific Awards on this meaningful anniversary. Congratulations to each of you for your hard work and achievements! 👏

Every week, members of Academia Iuvenum meet in the Senate Hall to share experiences, discuss new initiatives, and engage with invited guests.

Recently, thanks to the initiative of our member Jan Kocoń, we had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Przemysław Kazienko and Teddy Ferdinan, who presented exciting opportunities for collaboration within the project “Reasoning LLMs for Science.” 🤝

The project aims to conduct a comprehensive literature review of existing research on reasoning language models applied in various scientific disciplines.

We’re looking forward to contributing to this fascinating intersection of AI and scientific discovery! 🚀

🎉 Congratulations to the members of Academia Iuvenum of Politechnika Wrocławska! 🎉

Four of our young researchers have received funding in the MINIATURA 9 competition organized by the National Science Centre (NCN)! 👏

💡 Dr. Eng. Agnieszka Krakos (Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems) will study the use of miniature MEMS electron sources to create precise hydrogel structures with applications in tissue engineering.

💻 Dr. Eng. Tomasz Szandała (Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications) will develop a demographically annotated dataset for assessing fairness in deepfake detection and the Fair-FLIP method supporting ethical artificial intelligence.

🏗 Dr. Eng. Paweł Noszczyk (Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering) will conduct experimental research on eco-friendly thermal insulation composites made from corrugated cardboard.

🔬 Dr. Eng. Kinga Żołnacz (Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology) is working on developing a new single-photon source for applications in quantum cryptography.

📘 These projects mark an important step toward the development of modern technologies and innovative research solutions.

🌟 Academia Iuvenum at the 1st ArtTechScience Conference! 🌟

Several members of Academia Iuvenum took part in the first edition of the ArtTechScience Conference, which brought together seven universities from Wrocław which was set on Politechnika Wrocławska. The event was filled with a spirit of creativity, collaboration, and multidisciplinarity.

Our Chair, Dr. Eng. Weronika Urbańska delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “The Future of the Raw Materials Economy: Circularity and Sustainable Use of Earth and Space Resources.”

It was a time of opening up to new possibilities, broadening perspectives, and exploring cross-disciplinary collaboration. The inspiring keynote by Prof. Stephen Evans from the University of Cambridge — “Inter/Multi/Transdisciplinarity - New Networks of Knowledge: what works, what doesn’t, and why it matters” — reminded us that diverse teams can achieve great things, as long as we remain open-minded and curious.

✨ We’re grateful to have been part of this unique event connecting art, technology, and science — and we’re already looking forward to what comes next!

⚡Academia Iuvenum PWr Annual Workshop

Three amazing days in the mountains filled with science, inspiration, and great energy! 🌄
🔬 The ERC grant workshops led by:
• dr hab. inż. Róża Szweda, prof. UAM,
• dr hab. inż. Łukasz Sterczewski,
• dr hab. inż. Anna Siekierka, prof. PWr
brought a wealth of knowledge and practical insights.

The discussions that started during the sessions quickly moved into the hallways — inspiring conversations and ideas that will stay with us for a long time 💡

🤖 Dr Wojciech Stawiński conducted a fascinating workshop on using artificial intelligence in scientific work and grant writing, showing how smart tools can enhance research and creativity.

🎤 Fast Gong talks, scientific integration, and a shared trip to Wysoki Kamień helped us recharge our batteries 🔋 and return with fresh motivation for growth and new challenges.

Thank you to the speakers for broadening our horizons, to the organizers for bringing the whole plan together, and to the participants for warmly embracing the ideas and solutions that were shared. 🌟

Last Tuesday marked the first official AIM meeting of the new academic year, bringing together members selected for the 2024–2026 and 2025–2027 terms.
We started the meeting with a warm welcome from Prof. Dariusz Łydżba, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, and Prof. Katarzyna Sznajd-Weron, Rector’s Proxy for Academia Iuvenum. Thank you for your encouragement and support 🙏

During the session, we also elected our new Presidium, and we’re thrilled to introduce:
