President Salva Kiir has recently reshuffled the command structure of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), appointing new senior commanders to key positions.

The new SSPDF command is as follows:

Graduate Burns Degrees After 10 Years Without a Job in South Sudan

A university graduate from Maban County has burned all his academic documents after 10 years of failing to get a job.

James Dhiaga Muza graduated in 2016 with a degree in Rural Development Studies. He said he decided to burn the certificates because they were "useless" after years of job applications with no results.

Speaking to Aweil News Agency by phone from Opura in Maban, Muza said:

"I have decided to burn my documents because it is worth doing that. It is useless to keep them. I have done both written and oral interviews, but I was never called back to sign a contract. Is it bad that I studied Rural Development?"

Muza said his goal of going to school was to support himself financially. After 10 years without work, he said he saw no reason to keep the documents.

Maban County is one of the richest counties in Upper Nile State and hosts many NGOs. However, the area has been badly affected after the Donald Trump administration cut humanitarian aid. The funding cuts have forced many people to leave for neighboring countries like Sudan and Ethiopia.

BREAKING NEWS

A 15-year-old girl was reportedly shot in Thongpiny, Juba, on the evening of 12 July 2026 while returning home from a nearby shop.

The victim has been identified as Alek Ayuel Akuei, from Piol, Pale Clan, Bor County, Jonglei State.

According to reports, the shooter is alleged to be a member of the Republican Guard, commonly known as the Tiger Division. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motive remain unclear, and authorities have not yet released an official statement.

We wish Alek a swift and full recovery, and hope the incident is thoroughly investigated so the facts can be established.
