Akamai Unveils Agentic Security Framework to Power Trusted AI-Driven Interactions and Commerce

Unified framework secures and scales interactions across the emerging AI-driven economy

Know Your Agent protocol verifies identity and human attribution by linking AI agents to authorized human users

Real-time decisioning layer connects identity and behavior to automate secure digital commerce

Distributed edge enforcement protects performance while validating every automated request

Enhanced visibility allows organizations to distinguish, manage, and monetize agentic traffic.

As AI agents increasingly act on behalf of users, every request raises critical questions of identity, intent, and trust. To address this, Akamai announced its unified agentic framework for its Bot & Agent Control solutions, which connects identity, observability, trust, and edge security into a single, real-time decisioning layer to power scalable AI-driven interactions at the edge.

Six tightly integrated pillars form the framework, which are delivered through a coordinated ecosystem of partners:

Verified identity and human attribution: Through its collaboration with Visa, Akamai is establishing a trusted foundation by authenticating AI agents for secure, permissioned transactions. Integrations with frameworks like Visa’s Trusted Agent Protocol are helping define how agents operate in payment environments, setting clearer standards for authorization, permissions, and transaction-level trust. Akamai is also collaborating with Skyfire and Experian to strengthen trusted AI agent identity through the “Know Your Agent” (KYA) framework, which provides a standardized way for agents to declare identity, origin, and intent, linking them to the platforms they operate on and the users they represent. KYA can help ensure that an AI agent is not only legitimate but is also verified as acting on behalf of a specific, authorized individual. This provides the accountability required for merchants to process automated transactions safely.

“Without trusted identity and explicit permissioning, AI agents cannot participate in commerce at scale,” said Rubail Birwadker, SVP, Head of Growth Products and Partnerships, Visa. “Visa’s Trusted Agent Protocol provides the identity layer that defines how agents are authenticated, authorized, and trusted at the transaction level so businesses and consumers can transact with confidence.”

“AI agents are quickly becoming part of digital commerce, but trust will determine how far and how fast adoption grows,” said Kathleen Peters, Chief Innovation Officer at Experian. “With the Experian Agent Trust framework, we are helping businesses bring more transparency and accountability to AI-driven interactions by verifying identities, assessing risk, and strengthening confidence in every transaction. Our collaboration with Akamai and other ecosystem leaders reflects the industry’s shared commitment to building a secure foundation for agentic commerce that consumers and businesses can trust in real time.”

“AI agents can’t participate in the economy without trusted identity and the ability to transact,” said Amir Sarhangi, Co-Founder and CEO of Skyfire. “Skyfire provides that foundation — enabling agents to authenticate, operate within policy, and access global payment rails. With Akamai, we’re bringing that trust layer to the edge, so enterprises can securely enable trusted agents without re-architecting their existing systems.”

User-centric authentication: To maintain security during the handoff between a human and an AI agent, Akamai integrates with identity providers such as Auth0 and Ping Identity. These integrations allow businesses to apply existing security policies, such as behavioral analysis and multi-factor authentication, to the AI agents their customers use. This ensures that the agent’s actions remain consistent with the user’s established identity, behavior, and intent.

“AI agents introduce a new trust challenge because session-based trust alone is no longer sufficient. Organizations need to understand who they represent, what agents are allowed to do, and how their actions are governed in real time,” said Loren Russon, SVP Product Management, Ping Identity. “By combining Ping’s runtime identity capabilities with Akamai’s edge enforcement and visibility, enterprises can extend identity and access controls to AI-driven interactions with stronger accountability and oversight.”

Adaptive trust analysis: The framework enables organizations to dynamically determine the trustworthiness and intent behind every interaction across browsers, bots, and agents. This shifts beyond binary decision-making toward a spectrum of trust that puts the user at the center, allowing customers to identify which interactions support business outcomes and which introduce abuse, fraud, or operational risk.

Edge-based enforcement: Security and performance requirements for AI interactions are being met through Akamai’s distributed edge network. By utilizing high-performance compute, Akamai can evaluate the risk and intent of an agentic request instantly. Processing these decisions at the edge, Akamai helps businesses maintain security and control without compromising the speed of the user experience.

Content monetization and value exchange: As AI models and agents consume more web content, the framework provides a path for fair compensation. Through partnerships with TollBit and Skyfire, Akamai enables publishers and content owners to negotiate access and facilitate tokenized, pay-per-request models. This allows businesses to monetize their data while providing AI agents with the licensed access they need to function.

“AI agents are the new visitors and shoppers of the internet, and websites need a way to transact with them,” said Tosh*t Panigrahi, Co-Founder and CEO of TollBit. “By using Akamai’s ability to identify agentic traffic at the edge and redirect it to TollBit’s Agent Site, businesses can send agents to a dedicated, agent-optimized destination where they enforce their own access rules and turn it into a new revenue stream, making AI traffic a source of value rather than a cost.”

Operational visibility and traffic analysis: Through TrafficPeak and our industry-leading web security analytics, Akamai provides organizations with a unified view of their web traffic, distinguishing between human users, beneficial AI agents, and malicious bots. These high-scale log analyses allow security and business teams to observe how agents interact with their sites over time, providing the data necessary to refine access controls and commercial strategies.
“AI agents are replacing clicks, acting and handling commerce for us. For that to work, businesses need to recognize not just the agent, but who is behind it and what it’s trying to do,” said Patrick Sullivan, VP, CTO of Security Strategy, Akamai. “We’ve built this so that identity informs visibility, visibility drives trust, and trust powers the decisions that let companies safely grow and monetize these new AI interactions. We’re giving businesses the confidence to open their doors to AI without compromising security.”

Across its ecosystem, Akamai is helping businesses move toward a unified approach to managing bots, agents, and users. The result is a scalable model where every interaction is verified, understood, and acted on in real time.

A quantum emulator in OUTSCALE Marketplace to prepare for tomorrow's use cases
OUTSCALE also announces a partnership with PariSanté Campus and the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab of Dassault Systèmes, designed to help health tech startups move from idea to industrializable solution on a sovereign, compliant foundation from their very first line of code.

A Distinctive Edge Born from Industrial Rigor
OUTSCALE is the global Cloud and AI operator of Dassault Systèmes, the world leader in virtual twins and industrial AI. Its solutions serve the most demanding industrial organizations on the planet - companies that require continuous innovation, the design of complex and sustainable products, the protection of their intellectual property, and a sovereign Cloud with highly specific capabilities.

These requirements raise the bar across the board and drive OUTSCALE's technology roadmap toward excellence. Therein lies OUTSCALE's unique position: a virtuous cycle in which the most demanding clients fuel innovation, and where that expertise, that capacity to industrialize, then benefits organizations in regulated markets. What is built for the most exacting clients becomes a competitive advantage for critical markets. From this flows a singular vision, unique technologies, a distinctive position in sovereign Cloud and AI, and the AI Factories that OUTSCALE is presenting today.

OUTSCALE Industrializes Sovereign AI with its AI Factories
OUTSCALE announces the extension of its AI Factory capabilities to enterprise and institutional clients.

Artificial intelligence cannot be adequately served by a traditional IaaS Cloud. The intensive compute it requires calls for a dedicated, purpose-built infrastructure - the AI Factory - designed for training and operating models at scale. OUTSCALE combines this with critical guarantees for sensitive organizations: sovereignty, ensured in particular through data non-persistence; resource optimization and usage efficiency; and the ability to scale on global resources, as close as possible to each organization's needs.

This capability is part of the Dassault Systèmes AI Factories strategy, operated by OUTSCALE within its sovereign and sustainable Cloud infrastructure. It is designed to enable organizations to develop, train, fine-tune and operate their artificial intelligence models in controlled, high-performance, sovereign environments.

These AI Factories were originally built for Dassault Systèmes and are at the core of 3DEXPERIENCE AI. By combining Dassault Systèmes' virtual twin technologies with NVIDIA's AI infrastructure, open models and accelerated compute libraries, they enable the construction of science-validated Industry World Models, as well as new ways of working powered by expert virtual companions on the 3DEXPERIENCE agentic platform. Deployed across three continents as part of Dassault Systèmes' sovereign and sustainable Cloud strategy, they help industry design, simulate and operate complex systems - from biology to materials science and from engineering to manufacturing - while ensuring data confidentiality, intellectual property protection and sovereignty.

Ready at the scale of Dassault Systèmes and purpose-built for 3DEXPERIENCE AI, these AI Factories are now made available by OUTSCALE to institutions and enterprises in regulated markets. What was built for the world leader in virtual twins and industrial AI is now a directly accessible asset for the most demanding organizations.

AI Factories by OUTSCALE address a growing need in sensitive sectors: access to advanced compute power for AI, while ensuring data protection, control of technology environments and preservation of intellectual property.

By combining GPU power, orchestration, Cloud services and a secure environment, OUTSCALE enables organizations to accelerate their AI initiatives without compromise on sovereignty.

OUTSCALE Kubernetes as a Service Committed to SecNumCloud 3.2
Already available, OUTSCALE Kubernetes as a Service (OKS) enables organizations to deploy managed, dedicated and isolated Kubernetes environments within minutes, on OUTSCALE's SecNumCloud-qualified public Cloud infrastructure. Each client benefits from a dedicated cluster, an isolated control plane and the absence of resource sharing with other organizations.

Equipped with autoscaling capabilities and next-generation GPU support, OKS covers the needs of Cloud-native applications, DevOps environments and AI workloads. OUTSCALE today announces its commitment to advance OKS toward SecNumCloud 3.2 certification, marking a new step in extending its trust foundation beyond infrastructure to the platform layers essential for the industrialization of critical applications.

OUTSCALE Launches Managed Databases with OUTSCALE Managed NuoDB
OUTSCALE announces the launch of OUTSCALE Managed Databases, a new line of managed database services designed to simplify the operation of critical data in sovereign environments. The first offering, OUTSCALE Managed NuoDB, is built on Dassault Systèmes' distributed database, whose unique distributed SQL capabilities were designed for natively Cloud environments. It brings to critical applications the availability, resilience and scalability expected of Cloud infrastructure, while reducing operational complexity.

This development illustrates OUTSCALE's path toward a complete Cloud platform strategy - going beyond infrastructure to accelerate transformation, application modernization and data value creation within a fully sovereign framework.

OUTSCALE Marketplace Welcomes a Quantum Emulator
OUTSCALE announces the availability of a quantum emulator in OUTSCALE Marketplace. This experimentation environment enables enterprises and institutions to test their quantum algorithms, familiarize themselves with new computing paradigms and identify the most relevant use cases, without premature investment in specialized infrastructure.

By integrating this capability into its Marketplace, OUTSCALE prepares its clients for the next stages of technological innovation while remaining within a sovereign, secure and operational framework.

Digital Health: OUTSCALE, PariSanté Campus and the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab Join Forces to Build the Next Generation of Health Tech Unicorns
OUTSCALE, PariSanté Campus and the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab of Dassault Systèmes are entering into a partnership designed to give health tech startups the means to move from idea to industrializable solution on a sovereign, compliant foundation from their very first line of code.

The partnership rests on four commitments:

The same Cloud as Dassault Systèmes: access to the OUTSCALE infrastructure that powers the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform, SecNumCloud-qualified and HDS-certified - the foundation running the modeling, simulation and collaboration projects of the world's leading industrial companies.
Native AI capabilities: train, deploy and scale models on health data in an environment compliant with regulatory requirements.
Human support through OUTSCALE for Entrepreneurs: Cloud credits, expert mentoring, on-campus events and networking with researchers and institutional stakeholders.
A shared ambition: to build the next French health tech unicorns, credible in the most demanding markets from their very first line of code.
The startups of the PariSanté Campus ecosystem need a robust foundation to move from prototype to industrializable solution without compromising on compliance. By bringing together healthcare institutions, technology companies, sovereign Cloud providers, researchers and entrepreneurs, this collaboration aims to strengthen the European health technology ecosystem and accelerate innovation and industrialization cycles. For patients and industry stakeholders, the goal is faster access to safer, more personalized and more effective solutions.

Leveraging Dassault Systèmes' virtual twins, startups reduce reliance on costly physical prototypes and shorten their time to market. They also benefit from OUTSCALE's sovereign Cloud infrastructure and high-performance compute resources capable of supporting AI-driven healthcare applications, in strict compliance with European data regulations and the security requirements specific to health data.

By supporting startups from growth through industrialization, this partnership illustrates how an alliance between a technology leader, a sovereign Cloud operator and a health innovation ecosystem can accelerate the future of medicine, advancing data sovereignty and delivering better outcomes for patients.

IBM.

AI toolbox. An interview with an ethicist.

In the latest installment of IBM Think’s ongoing expert interview series, IBM Fellow and global AI ethics leader Francesca Rossi argues that while AI can assist with work, accountability for what it produces must remain firmly in human hands.

Rossi uses ChatGPT and Claude daily to develop lectures, explore research ideas, draft content and even build presentation decks. But she sees them as collaborators, not colleagues.

“The only accountable entity is the human being,” Rossi told IBM Think in an interview. “The only one that bears responsibility for whatever is generated is the human being.”

That distinction shapes how she uses AI. Rossi routinely asks models for research papers and related work, but she assumes some citations may be wrong. Every source gets checked. Verification, she argues, isn’t an extra step—it’s the price of using AI responsibly.

She also draws a hard line between AI’s ability to sound human and its inability to be human. During a difficult period when her cat underwent multiple surgeries, Rossi turned to AI for help, thinking through questions for veterinarians. The chatbot responded with apparent concern and asked for updates.

“But of course it doesn’t care about my cat,” she said.

That simulated empathy worries her. As more people turn to chatbots for companionship, Rossi fears users may forget that AI generates comforting language without understanding, experience or genuine concern.

She is equally skeptical of deepfakes, AI-generated moral judgments and unsupervised “vibe coding” by non-programmers. Across all use cases, the same principle applies: AI can accelerate thinking and productivity, but accountability always belongs to the human behind the keyboard.

Earlier this month Microsoft released models to be used for AI. It writes:

”We are announcing a family of seven new models developed in-house at Microsoft AI. Beyond these models, we’re building a superintelligence lab – a system and an approach we believe will define the next phase of AI.

This is an extraordinary time in technology. The compute used to train frontier models has increased by a factor of one trillion. Now we expect another thousand-fold increase over the next three years, which in turn means more advanced capabilities, and the continued rollout of ever more effective AI.

This epic compute ramp will change the nature of work, business and daily life. We all have to prepare for this reality. Our job at MAI is to help you do this – to push the frontier, and to build a hill-climbing machine to keep you at the frontier.

Here’s our first steps along the way.

Our Models

Our new models across image, voice, transcription, coding, and reasoning, together form the MAI model family: a multimodal ecosystem designed to work across the kinds of tasks that matter in the real world.

MAI-Thinking-1, Microsoft AI’s flagship reasoning model. It is a medium-sized model that stands among the strongest models in its weight class: it matches leading models on key software engineering benchmarks, and demonstrates advanced mathematical reasoning capabilities, and is preferred to Sonnet 4.6 in our blind human side-by-side evaluations. We trained it from the ground up on clean data, without distillation from third-party models.

MAI-Code-1-Flash is an inference-efficient agentic coding model. This model is tailor-made for and deeply integrated into GitHub Copilot, VS Code and the Microsoft stack, and, with 5 billion active parameters, is comparable to Haiku but cheaper.
MAI-Image-2.5 including its ultra-efficient Flash variant, supports both world-class text-to-image and image editing, surpassing the Arena score of Nano Banana Pro.

MAI Transcribe-1.5 is the best transcription model in the world, with SOTA accuracy. It’s five times faster than competing models, with built-in support for domain-specific terminology across 43 languages.
MAI-Voice-2 brings high-quality, natural-sounding speech generation across 15 languages, with the ability to adapt to a voice from a short sample, alongside strong safeguards against misuse. MAI-Voice-2-Flash, coming soon, does it in a lower cost, ultra-efficient package.

Alongside distribution on Foundry and optimization for our 1P products, our models are also going to be widely available for developers on OpenRouter, as well as Fireworks and Baseten. For the first time developers will be able to tune the weights of the model themselves.

All these models share the same infrastructure and the same commitment to clean, enterprise grade data lineage. We don’t distill from other labs and we don’t rely on opaque data. Our datasets are clean, traceable, and enterprise-grade. They are designed to work together, and to integrate directly into the products people use every day. But the models themselves are only part of the story.

The most important shift lies in what you can do with them.

Adapted for you

AI is moving into a new phase. With reinforcement learning in real-world environments, AI can fully adapt to the specifics of a given workflow for the first time. We call this Microsoft Frontier Tuning. We think it’s the future for how AI shows up. Learn more in the Microsoft 365 blog post.

We think it’s the future for how AI shows up.

In this set-up the most valuable data is yours: the trace of real work an agent completes, the sequence of steps, the decisions, the actions taken that define how tasks actually get done inside an organization.

Our reinforcement learning environments (RLEs) allow your MAI models to learn directly from your workflows. Think of them as training gyms for AI, accessible only to you.

With Frontier Tuning, you’re building your own model, trained on your data, within your environment, controlled by you. Your institutional knowledge becomes part of the model, and it stays yours. What’s even better is that this adaptation then drives efficiency and performance.

Across Microsoft and with customers, Frontier Tuning is showing that custom models are both better and more efficient: our MAI tuned model for Excel matches GPT 5.4 while being up to 10× more efficient. Early adopters are seeing similar gains at the frontier. When tuned for a market-leading organization’s exacting enterprise standards, MAI achieved the highest win rate of any model tested at roughly 10× lower cost.

Developers and businesses have been crying out for AI that delivers on their terms and under their say. We see this as a major step towards delivering that.”
