✨ Last Wednesday, we kicked off the first Researcher Unbound+ workshop of the academic year – and it was a full house!
This session’s theme, Shifting the Perspective: Innovative Approaches in Undergraduate Research, highlighted how reframing assumptions can unlock fresh insights, foster coexistence, and spark innovation!
We were inspired by four undergraduate researchers from across CHS, each bringing a unique disciplinary lens:
1️⃣ Ziv Ng explored the cultural and communicative 🗣️ nuances surrounding 💊Western and traditional Chinese medicine in Singapore🇸🇬.
2️⃣ Tara Lingaraj shared her work on 🪸coral reef atoll island formation🏝️in the context of global environmental change 🌏.
3️⃣ Lina Altoaimi .7471 investigated people's perception 🤔 of mould in shaping the ✨aesthetics of landscapes 🏢.
4️⃣ Sruthi A ._.ruth_less presented her structural biology research 🔬on an Aedes salivary protein 🦟 with potential applications for dengue control 🦠.
To make the learning experience even more engaging, we introduced a crossword puzzle 🧩
with prizes to be won, encouraging the audience to pick up on key insights💡sprinkled throughout the presentations. Beyond their fascinating projects, our speakers also opened up about their research journeys during the fireside chat 💬 – sharing challenges, lessons learned, and words of encouragement for budding researchers 🧑🏻🔬.
🎤 Have a research story of your own? We’d love to hear it! Write to [email protected] 💻 to conceptualise your very own Researcher Unbound+ workshop. (P.S. This counts as a research deliverable for REx Fellows! 🤗)
📢 And if you are interested in presenting your research at a larger-scale event – abstract submissions for REx Con 2026 are open till 26 September 🗓️!
