Not all lanterns carry light.🏮

Some make breakfast before sunrise.
Some help us to carry our groceries.
Some take us to the doctor when we’re sick.

This Vesak Day, we’re reminded that compassion isn’t just a teaching. It’s something many caregivers choose, every single day.

To those who continue showing up with patience, strength, and love, even when no one is watching…

Thank you for being a light in someone’s life.

Happy Vesak Day ! 🪷

“People always ask how caregiving feels.
But behind every answer… is a story no one really sees.”

In this unfiltered conversation, a caregiver shares her journey of caring for her husband living with ALS, it is the quiet sacrifices, emotional weight, moments of exhaustion, and the love that keeps her going.

Because caregiving isn’t just about helping someone live.
Sometimes, it’s about learning how to keep going too. ❤️

Thank you for letting us share your caregiving story.

Hari Raya Haji is more than a celebration.
It is shaped by quiet reflection, gratitude and care in the everyday moments that bring families closer in meaning and presence.

This Hari Raya Haji, we celebrate not just togetherness, but the unseen warmth that makes it possible.

SG Assist wishes you a Selamat Hari Raya Haji ! đź’š

Some things we don’t think twice about. Whether it’s reaching for clothes, picking up dropped items, enjoying a meal, or finding a place to rest halfway through a walk. It can all slowly become daily challenges with age.

That’s why assistive tech matters. 💙

This time, our interns tested out:
✨ Pull-down clothes rail
🤏 Handy reacher
🥢 Universal chopsticks
🪑 Folding seat cane

Simple solutions, but ones that can bring back a little more comfort, confidence, and independence in everyday life.

While Singapore has many senior volunteering programmes, most volunteering architecture is built around the organisation's needs, not the volunteer's growth. đź’ˇ

Current evidence suggests that senior's contribution is one of the most powerful health interventions available to an ageing society.

The goal is not to keep seniors busy. It is to keep them genuinely connected — to each other, to purpose, and to a community that still needs what they have to give, says SG Assist's Co-Founder Adrian Tan.

Through the 15M Social Movement, NHG Healthiverse brings communities together to explore how healthy living can be made more inclusive, engaging, and accessible for all. From adaptive sports and community activities to interactive cooking experiences, this year’s event highlights the importance of staying connected — not only to our health, but also to the people around us.

If families are the foundation of society, why is caregiving still treated as invisible work?đź’¬

Behind every child's wellbeing stands a caregiver carrying more than they let on. Sometimes a parent stretched thin between work and home. Sometimes a grandparent who has stepped in to raise the next generation. And often a senior who is still giving care while quietly needing it themselves.

This is where the conversation around Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing hits closest to home in Singapore. Inequality doesn't always show up in income. It also lives in how care responsibilities are distributed within families, and who ends up bearing the weight, year after year.

At SG Assist, we don't see caregiving in isolation. Supporting seniors is directly tied to supporting families, which shapes the environments children grow up in. When caregiving becomes sustainable, families grow more stable, and wellbeing becomes something that is shared, not strained.đź«‚

“Be strong for the family.”

How many Singaporean sons grew up hearing that… while silently carrying caregiving responsibilities alone? 🧠💭

Male caregivers are rising in Singapore, yet many still struggle in silence due to stigma and lack of support. In 2025, over 4 in 10 people who left work to care for parents were men.

Maybe it’s time we stop treating caregiving as gendered labour and start recognising it as shared responsibility. 🙌

Who’s supporting the caregivers when they burn out?

When you were younger, she tucked you into bed when you were unwell.
When you came home from school, your favourite meal was already waiting.
When you grew older, she still made sure you got home safely.

A mother’s love changes in form, but never fades. ❤️

This Mother’s Day, we honour the quiet care and everyday sacrifices that shaped who we are.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at SG Assist 🌷🩵
