When your prof says they are heading out for fieldwork... they might actually mean trekking through mangroves, restoring wetlands, studying endangered species, or travelling across Southeast Asia to protect ecosystems 👀🌏

Meet Dr. Getchen Coffman, wetland restoration ecologist, Senior Lecturer, researcher, conservation advocate, and quite possibly one of the few people whose office can sometimes be a mangrove forest. 🌿✨

From rivers and coral reefs to mangroves and endangered species, Dr. Coffman's work is all about helping ecosystems recover and thrive. Even cooler? She actively brings students along on research projects and field trips across the region, turning classrooms into real-world learning experiences. 🚤🔬

💡 Her journey is a reminder that your career can take you places you never imagined, sometimes literally.

Your prof teaching engineering? Cool.

Your prof using engineering to improve lives and support communities? Even cooler 👀

Meet Assoc. Prof James Kah from Biomedical Engineering, the prof behind , where innovation meets empathy, and where engineering solutions are designed to create real-world impact. 💡

One moment that shaped his journey?

When someone close to him fell ill, it inspired him to pursue cancer research and nanotechnology, eventually leading him towards creating meaningful solutions that help people in their everyday lives.

Safe to say… this is engineering with heart 🫶

His final piece of advice?

💬 Focus less on “What can I gain?” and more on “What can I contribute?”
