Before teaching at NUS Computing, Senior Lecturer Lee spent over 30 years in tech - working across consulting, software development, product management, and digital transformation with companies like Accenture, HP, Sun Microsystems, and even DBS. 🚀

So yes… your prof has definitely seen some things 👀

What actually sparked his teaching arc?

Back during his Accenture days, he volunteered to teach colleagues from different countries and realised he genuinely enjoyed helping people learn and grow. That passion eventually brought him from industry into academia ✨

Now, he’s all about bringing real-world industry thinking into the classroom so students can better connect what they learn to what happens outside school.

His biggest career takeaway?

Tech changes fast. But one skill will always stay relevant:

👉 being able to learn, adapt, and pick up new things quickly.

And his advice for students entering the workforce?

💬 Don’t just focus on solving problems, think about the user. Build products and experiences that create real impact and give you that extra “oomph” ✨

🎓 Ask Me Anything (Mentor Edition)

Meet Cindy (Chemistry, Class of 2019), now in the healthcare industry , as she shares the real transition from structured school life to navigating the unknown at work.

💬 In uni: timetable planned for you
💬 At work: you plan everything yourself (sometimes… no deadline also 😵‍💫)
Biggest plot twist? Uncertainty.

No model answers, no step-by-step guide, just figuring things out as you go.

One piece of advice that changed everything for her:
👉 “always try and be bold.”

That mindset gave her the confidence to pivot from a lab setting into the corporate world 💼

✨ Her take:
Life won’t always go as planned, so stay open, adapt, and give yourself the space to figure things out.
